don't necessarily disagree with you on many of your points but your "no such thing as a rebuild" comment where you then go on to state the actual blueprint of what a rebuild is but somehow imply it is not a rebuild is strange.
It is not a rebuild because it is doing business the right way and the way it should be done from the start. To say rebuild like you have never tried it before is insane. So what Dipoto and others should say is that we are going to do it the right way from here on out even though we have shown no promise of ever doing it the right way.

The verbiage is just to satisfy the fans and keep them off your GM's back for 2 to 3 more years before pressure to win starts up again. It is great help preservation, but it is still the right and only way to do it. It isn't new nor inventive.

I can't disagree with you, and I think you and Larry Stone are on the same page if you read that article I sent.

I know you'll disagree with this and bring up some counterarguments I can't refute, but my perspective is that there's no reason to go all in when I genuinely don't think that would even result in the Mariners landing the second wildcard spot. Sure, prospects are prospects, and many don't pan out. But the way I look at it is that they are also trade chips. Why throw away those trade chips when realistically, this team will not make the playoffs this year - even if we had a fantastic deadline.

It's a defeatist perspective when it comes to the 2021 season, I know. But I do feel like the best move is to go all in on free agents and trades this offseason.

Eh, fuck if I know? If I'm wrong and the Mariners are still in the playoff race at the end of the season, I will concede that Dipoto should've gone all in. Hindsight is always 20/20 and if that is the case, that shows that Dipoto is as bad at evaluating the team as I am.
Going all in is wrong, but going in to a point where it helps you in the playoff run and still makes you better for a few years to come.

My question will always be, "If not now, when?". If you can guarantee next year will be a better playoff run, then patients is the key. But how many next years (currently 20 and counting) are we willing to wait for?

And please raise your hand if you are sure this offseason will be the offseason they become players in the real free agent market. Because I still thought last offseason was the year, and well...

This wasn't me talking to you. This was just me talking. Just like every year at this time, I tend to lose interest. I haven't watched a game in a couple weeks and don't even have access to watch one the rest of the year and sadly it isn't even bothering me. I hope Toro continues to rip it up. Castillo, well he is a closer and for all the reason gave for trading Gravemen (with exception to the free agent to be thing) gives for this guy as well.

Always good hearing from you. :suds:

i dont ...dis agree...and i could see it from that point..of view...lol...but im to busy learning players then cape cod...i have not even looked into cape cod league this year ...yet

get to the MLB...cuz that will be there best time to go to the series...if they trade those guys...they may never go...which..is why..every other team..wants to rip them away..in trades...so there team..can go to the series

also why im against trading at all at this point..getting free agents..would be..much ..much better

You and I disagree on the rebuild and honestly why I got pissed off because I have defended it and can’t any longer with the Graveman deal. But your first sentence is spot on. Try to get the young players a taste of the playoffs and build a winning culture. No one said go make the deal the Dodgers did. They aren’t going to make the World Series but winning the card game and getting into the ALDS would’ve been a good start.

We saw this play out when we had all of these exciting players who were under “club control” hit a peak in 95 and they had to make trades because collecting so many controllable contracts eventually leads to you having to pay a crap load of players at once. Just on paper if Gilbert, Kelenic, Hancock, Raleigh and Julio all hit like the rebuild has called, that’s $100 million plus right there. The opening window of a rebuild is a hell of a lot better than what Cubs fans just went through.

yeah .........cuz they dont.....have to wait for those guys...to go to the playoffs.....but kerlenic prob will hit better next year..fraley already was..but has been injured to much
and
lewis..for the most part...has been out all year..soo...hopefully some of those things will be better
so..if kelenic..will hit 300..or even..260..i would say..that may be the time..but to me it will be close..to the same..kelinic may..hit better before those guys get to mlb...but..then there is julio.rod as well...

they may even go to the playoffs this year..but i feel next year,,would be a better bet..with at least one free agent..pitcher..which..they have been saying that gilbert is not an ace..but he seems to be the best pitcher they have..lately..the kikuchi..has been better

rotation..next year..maybe

Logan Gilbert 36.........R/R..i would put flex here but i think logan is better suited..cuz i see good teams struggle..when he pitches..so i will put flex
Yusei Kikuchi 18.......L/L
Chris Flexen 77........R/R
Marco Gonzales 7.......L/L
Justin Dunn 35...R/R
Tyler Anderson 31...L/L.....we will see if he wants to stick around..but..this is a great spot..for anderson..in the mariners rotation..of 6 man rotation

James Paxton 44...is a for sure .....maybe...........back from t.j.
Ljay Newsome 74...will be back..prob minors,,for start....tacoma

Justus Sheffield 33..spot start..long realief
Nick Margevicius 52...same

bull pen
Ken Giles 58.............will be back from ..tj
Paul Sewald 37
Diego Castillo 63
Anthony Misiewicz 38.......L/L..he can still go down......not that we want him to..but ya need an open door to tacoma
Drew Steckenrider 16
Erik Swanson 50..can still go down as well
Joe Smith 43
Casey Sadler 65

Andrés Muñoz 54.,.back from ..tj...prob start..tacoma

You and I disagree on the rebuild
You really believe there is such a thing as a rebuild? Some button you push that makes draft picks legit and development standard? Rebuild is a fancy word for saying we are going to try and do it the right way this time even though we have no experience at doing it. It is a time buyer for GM's who are hanging by a thread and want to buy a few star years. Great organizations never 'rebuild' because they are good at doing the right thing for years at a time.

It is a word I believe where you sell off all of your valuable assets to stock up on prospects like they have, I do defiantly believe that is a way to do it, like the Cubs, Dodgers and Yankees have done. Problem is I don’t believe in long term and this team has way too much money to keep acting like the A’s and Rays. They don’t have Dodgers or Yankees money but they do have Cubs and Red Sox money.

I have liked some of his moves but overall I think Jerry sucks as a GM. Sucked when they were win now mode, so far hasn’t produce in the rebuild mode. This is the year they are suppose to be competitive and next year fight for the World Series. But his trade deadline doesn’t say the World Series is the goal for next year. And relying on 2 top 10 rookie prospects on your 2022 roster seems like a stretch for a run at the World Series.
