I dont think we dismiss it, but if its what kills the season I think there are bigger issues here. The timing sucked but at the same time I would definitely take Castillo over Graveman. Sometimes you have to make those type of moves
But the main grievance it is wasn’t an either or. They could still have made the Castillo trade he had both when they are winning 2 series in a row from being in a playoff spot. I totally get the philosophy of wanting controllable guys, but eventually they are going to have to stop pretending they are a small market team and think they can resign their guys. And eventually when they are in a playoff race they are going to need to keep one their best player who is a FA at the end of the year. This obviously is still first emotions of the deal, I didn’t like it and Jerry did his Jerry thing with saying he had to do it because he wanted to be able to look in the mirror and say Montero wasn’t a failed experiment because he flipped him.

The clubhouse thing isn’t the end all be all but with a young clubhouse they do eventually need camaraderie, so I just don’t get the reaction to it being reported.

Why not Castillo and Graveman? One had nothing to do with the other.

Because they wanted Toro who helps this year and next.

Look at what they have been throwing out at 2B. I really dont see the downgrade here in baseball on the field terms. I wont speak to the clubhouse portion.

They needed to get rid of Montero that day and they have been eyeing Toro. I dont see a lot of solutions coming up in the system at 2nd or 3rd base and to get something you need to give something. And if that's 30 year old relief pitcher pitching at the top of his game that could leave after the year, then I completely get it.

I have no issue with the clubhouse thing being reported. That's Divish and the other reporters jobs to report what they see. But I mean Tampa dealt one of their better relievers too and the teammates didnt like it. That's just what happens sometimes.

I honestly was confused at first too but it made more sense when I looked at it closely. I think the team is better now then it was a couple of days ago. I dont think it's enough to get a WC spot but they could have traded Kirby/Hancock/Marte and still fallen short anyway.

Im ok with things for now but they better spend and make a move this offseason or Ill have a different tune

Well that trade deadline was pretty underwhelming. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they didn't give up one of their better prospects for a rental, but I also don't feel like they improved at all either. Here's hoping Toro ends up being a keeper.

These guys are professionals and have been seeing players coming and going from their teams ever since they played in little league. I doubt they are really that upset for long.

That being said I hope they aren't done with trades. This is still the worst hitting team in baseball and not much has been done about that. This team will get slaughtered in the playoffs if they somehow made it.

Nevermind its over I guess. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING

Whelp looks like they are giving up on the year. Saw all the competition around them get better and sat on their hands. Can’t wait to see what the excuse is in the off-season as to why we aren’t going after other players.

This shows why the re-build goes on and on....More money spent, but not on team building I guess. :L

But they already got “rid” of Montero. It was a pure ego thing that Jerry had to trade him. That is one of gripes. If Toro was a priority the Mariners have relievers on the roster and plenty of prospect depth. The second one is pretending Seattle is some small market team and having the losers mentality of oh well Graveman was a free agent and we will lose him. Let alone he is “at the top of his game” so let’s trade him. Who knows exactly what he ceiling is, but it sure has been a lot better after surgery and him going to the bullpen and becoming high leverage guy.

The Tampa comparison goes back to the loser mentality and kind of the point of Seattle isn’t Tampa.

I don’t think anyone can say they are anything other than slightly better but that isn’t because of Toro it is because of Anderson. But they aren’t as good as they should be. I am not saying they needed to go out and get rid of one of their top prospects to catch the Astros but with their performance up until Monday the goal changed from next year to trying catch the A’s and sneak into the wildcard.

Your last part is totally true and maybe they will shock us all and spend. But Castillo at most = Graveman and Toro is an unknown but can’t we at least agree he < Seager?

Sorry about the rant. It isn’t so much that I don’t like Toro, I just don’t get why it was an either or with Graveman and Castillo nor do I understand Jerry literally saying he is punting on the season. They got two full months left and the Mariners/Astros/A’s got like 20 something games against each other left.

the path the mariners are on..is a better path...than houston..and the AS

Nine teams have two or fewer prospects on the 2021 Top 100. The Astros and Rockies both have a single Top 100 prospect for a second straight year and are joined this year by the Nationals. After placing three prospects in the Top 100 for five straight years, the A’s are the only team without representation on this year’s list.

so toro fits with the group..of young mariners...that..was worth graveman..who ended up costing shenton as well
but graveman is a free agent next year..so..if they want him they can go get him'...if seattle goes to the playoffs

the odds of going to the series..is

+6000
houston
+500
anyway

so this is the real cost of trading graveman..is they had to go get RHP Diego Castillo/..and that cost..
3B Austin Shenton (Mariners No. 17 prospect)..which is the biggest loss..the..the farm..took...good job...jedi...i give an A grade..for not over spending..with..farm hands
but not an A +..cuz..well..some say the mariners could have goten a better pitcher.....for the 5th spot..??...so ok.......no A+++

I don’t know if it was CBS or not but they posted an article where it wasn’t the Mariners that lost but it was Dipoto lost. Which is really tricky because he and Servais are tied at the hip so no idea how the players have so much disdain for him but can like Servais.

i knew those guys..where going to say that...but..those pitchers at...aqua sox...are some of the best..in the minors..and what every other team..wants..
soo...for those guys point of ........view..or chew.......seattle will not be a threat..to the players they wanted for there teams..or to there teams
playoffs....maybe
but..seattle is not ready yet anyway....
so seattle did fine..for seattles needs...not san diegos...or a big media splash.....so a guy can write an artical..wrong..seattle..did fine for seattle
and although..lost..austin shenton..was at AA
they have

presumably..the clubs that..almost never have to rebuild..are the ones that can buy...the team..as in free..agents..

like dodgers NY yankees..boston..sf giants..somewhat..angels..but they hit there bumps...as do most other teams
