Thoughts on Graveman?

Generally I'm for selling high on bullpen arms, but at some point, if you want to compete, you need a few bulldogs out there. He's only signed through the season, so the trade value is purely a rental.

Unless he's a must have for someone to net us a good return, I'd be very happy resigning him for a few years. Only 30 years old and he's been a monster this year.
Weren't you just arguing with someone when they said they would have kept him after he was traded? :suds:

You're so salty these days. The M's are decent. Try enjoying it.

Me? I can see merits of resigning and trading someone, obviously. Pros on both sides. And the last time I checked, this is a discussion forum. Things happened, I discussed. Am I not allowed to have my opinion changed or evolve based on what actually happens?

Lighten up, chief.

Not your chief. Not your discussion buddy. I am not anything to you and I want to keep it that way.

Salty? You would be the expert on that. And yes you can change your opinion any time you want, just fasciated you question another when they expressed the same opinion you had two weeks ago.

It's been...

Hahaha, again, lighten up. No need to take Mariners talk so personally.

I literally asked him why he had his opinion. You know, a discussion... to hear someone else's point of view.

Not much flash on this one. Simply taking a flier to add starting depth.

With no Graveman to close out games, the Mariners will look to right-handers Paul Sewald and Drew Steckenrider to fit in that spot. Sources have said that the Mariners are looking for potential closers from teams in sell mode, including Washington’s Daniel Hudson and have even inquired about Chicago’s Craig Kimbrel.

  • RYAN WEBERRP, SEATTLE MARINERS

Mariners optioned RHP Ryan Weber to Triple-A Tacoma.

This move clears out a roster spot for starter Tyler Anderson, who was acquired from the Pirates earlier in the week. Weber holds a 12.10 ERA in 9 2/3 innings of work this season between three different organizations.
    Jul 29, 2021, 3:34 PM ET

  • JOSE BERRIOSSP, MINNESOTA TWINS

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Mariners have pursued a trade for Twins starter Jose Berrios.

Morosi hears that the Twins want a top pitching prospect from the Mariners in return, "likely Ermerson Hancock or George Kirby." Seattle already got Tyler Anderson from the Pirates earlier this week but now may be aiming a little higher the day before the July 30 deadline. Berrios, who's under club control through 2022, has registered a 3.48 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 126/32 K/BB ratio in 121 2/3 innings (20 starts) this season.
the thing is
Tyler Anderson..has a 4.35 era..that is almost as good..and could get a bit better..but..to me the mariners need more hitting...and just let those pitchers get here
hancock,..kirby..and..
LeviStoudt
are the main ones...and should not even be thought to be traded

this not so bad...if he can keep it up ...while improving....he can help the mariners move forward...
if he can play 2B..and 3B..then we have a winner..for the 2B..job...and moore can go back to...utility...and long 2B/lf..works as well

then..all they need...is a relief guy..to take gravmans spot....

the idea of a ..rental pitcher..at this point may be ok.....so why not seattle..for 1/2 a year...lol

source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that Scherzer prefers to be traded to a West Coast team, and notes that the Dodgers, Giants and Padres are considered the three favorites. However, The Athletic's Jayson Stark reports that at least eight teams are in the mix: the three NL West contenders, plus the Red Sox, Rays, Blue Jays, Astros and Mets.
Scherzer is in the final season of a seven-year, $210 million deal with Washington. The entirety of his $35 million salary this year is deferred, interest free, as it was in each of the past two seasons. That said, for the purposes of the Competitive Balance Tax, Scherzer's deal carries an annual CBT figure of $28.689 million.

MLB.com’s Jon Morosi tweets that the Mariners have been pursuing a Berrios acquisition this week, with the Twins focusing on one of Seattle’s top pitching prospects (Emerson Hancock or George Kirby) as part of a multi-player return. The two sides aren’t close to a deal, Morosi adds. Both Hancock (2020) and Kirby (2019) were first-round picks in recent Mariners drafts and have pitched at Class-A Advanced this year. Both players have missed time with shoulder fatigue this year, but Hancock returned this week and Kirby is expected back within the next couple of weeks, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times tweeted a couple days ago.

I want no part of trying to get a guy in a bidding war, when Kirby and Hancock are being mentioned this year.
