Not sure but I think Bins may have been higher rated than David Arias was with us at the time of their trades.
I would have to relook but don’t feel like it. Maybe narrative has changed my memory on that one. I can’t blame the Mariners for it but it just was M’s luck. Trying to replace Tino forever until Olerud when could’ve had Ortiz at 1B until Edgar retired.

1996 (the year they traded him), Ortiz was 20 at 'A' ball where he hit .322 with 18 homers 93 RBI's in 129 games. Not bad.

Holt crap not bad. Narrative I have always heard was he struggled, then got really good changed his name then got traded. Like it was some semi racial thing. This is why you can’t trust a narrative because it has its core, then is outlined by colorful things.

I am pretty sure he got traded and then changed his name. And he was good, which I didn't realize either.

When he arrived in Minnesota, he informed the team that he preferred to be listed as "David Ortiz"—using his paternal family name rather than "Arias" which was his maternal family name. Referring to the switch, sportswriter Jay Jaffe called Arias/Ortiz "literally the player to be named later."

Wow, like I said narrative changed, at least the way I recall it. The way I recall like I said he struggled and had no option to the bigs and was a toss in player. Which is way off evidently.

Good look at Anderson's stuff. Not a big strikeout guy, and needs to keep the ball down on and on the corners, but his starts are going to be a hell of a lot better than watching those bullpen game fiascos.

1:58 - 6 no hit innings against the Padres on May3.

Man I have missed a lot in two days.

I think from a pure numbers standpoint the Graveman trade is fine. You are trading two months of a reliever who is clearly at the peak of his game for a prospect with 4 years of control that provides depth at positions (2B,3B) that you have none at.

From an emotional standpoint, its a kick in the gut. And you can say these guys are professionals and its part of the gig but I also dont think you can say its a non factor. This team isnt supposed to be in this position and they have fought hard to get this point. Trading one of your team leaders (at least from what I gather) to your biggest division rival sends just an odd message with even odder timing given how they had played the previous 5 games.

I am willing to not overreact either way until Friday i guess at this point, but its a bold move by dipoto to say the least.

In baseball and softball, a relief pitcher or reliever is a pitcher who enters the game after the starting pitcher is removed due to injury, ineffectiveness, fatigue, ejection, or for other strategic reasons, such as inclement weather delays or pinch hitter substitutions. Relief pitchers are further divided informally into various roles, such as closers, setup men, middle relief pitchers, left/right-handed specialists, and long relievers. Whereas starting pitchers usually rest several days before pitching in a game again due to the number of pitches thrown, relief pitchers are expected to be more flexible and typically pitch more games but with fewer innings pitched. A team's staff of relievers is normally referred to metonymically as a team's bullpen, which refers to the area where the relievers sit during games, and where they warm-up prior to entering the game.

Pitching staffs on MLB teams have grown from 9 or 10 to as many as 12 or 13 pitchers, due to the increased importance of relief pitching.[23] The staff generally consists of five starting pitchers, with the remaining pitchers assigned as relievers.[24] A team's relief staff usually contains a closer who generally pitches the ninth inning, a setup pitcher who generally pitches the eighth, and a left-handed specialist whose job is to retire left-handed batters. The rest of the bullpen then consists of middle relievers who are used in the remaining situations, and perhaps additional left-handed or right-handed specialists.[25]

The closer is usually the best relief pitcher, followed by the setup man.[26] Players typically get promoted into later-inning roles as they succeed.[27][28] Relievers were previously more multipurpose before becoming one-inning specialists.[28][29]

The setup man and closer will normally only be used to preserve a lead, although they may enter to maintain a close game (where the score is tied or if their team is trailing by only a few runs) particularly in the playoffs. If the team is significantly behind going into the eighth or ninth inning and a relief pitcher is required, usually a middle reliever or two will be chosen to soak up innings, while the setup man and closer are saved for the next time they are needed to preserve a win.[30] The proper use of the bullpen is to avoid using an effective reliever on a low-leverage situation, instead saving them as "fireman" for high-leverage situations (such as bases-loaded, no-outs).[31][32]

In 2018, some MLB teams began experimenting with an opener – a pitcher who is normally a reliever that starts the game for an inning or two before yielding to someone who would normally be a starter. One advantage of this approach is that the opener, who is often a hard-throwing specialist, can be called in to face the most dangerous hitters, who are usually near the top of the batting order, the first time they come to bat.[33] Although the opener has only been formally regarded as a relief role in 2018, managers have sporadically used a reliever before a starter. A good example is Game 6 of the 1990 National League Championship Series when Pittsburgh Pirates manager Jim Leyland started a set-up man, Ted Power, in order to keep the Cincinnati Reds from employing their successful platoon (Power pitched 2+1⁄3 innings prior to giving way to lefty starter Zane Smith in the third inning) and the strategy worked in holding the Reds to only two runs; to deceive his opponents Leyland had announced the Game 6 starter at a press conference so that the Reds would set their batting order around Smith.[34]

if there is a chance to get turner....mariners should go for it....

marifield..is a good player the mariners can really use....but also..the mariners have Dylan Moore 25..so..marifield ...is a moore type player..who can hit better than moore
trea turner..on the other hand...is not a moore type player....he is an awesome ss..that..gets a lot of hits....and hits HRs..
a close comparison..would be....
Norby, Connor
East Carolina (NC)...collage hits leader..this year...but can hit HRs..as well

connor is 2B..and turner ..a ss./...but anyone..who can play ss...should be able to play..2B...when it comes to 2 of the top ss..in the game
turner...and crawford...i would not care which one...went to ss..or 2B..

STARLING MARTEOF, OAKLAND ATHLETICS

Atheltics acquired OF Starling Marte and cash considerations from the Marlins for LHP Jesus Luzardo.

The agreement was first reported by Craig Mish of SportsGrid and has now officially been announced by both clubs. Giving up Luzardo must have been a tough call for the A's, but they have significantly improved their offense (and defense) as they look to chase down the Astros in the American League West. Marte, a 32-year-old impending free agent, was slashing .306/.407/.453 with seven home runs and 22 stolen bases through 63 games this season for Miami. The cash considerations will cover the large majority of his remaining salay for 2021.

ccording to MLB.com's Jon Morosi, the Dodgers have spoken to the Cubs about multiple players, including Craig Kimbrel.

Kimbrel figures to have about a dozen suitors right now with the trade deadline looming on Friday, but the Dodgers certainly have the farm system to beat out the competition for the veteran closer. He's registered a terrific 0.49 ERA and 64/13 K/BB ratio in 36 2/3 innings this season for Chicago while tallying 23 saves.

2B22.

You can probably cut Murphy's number in half considering who the Royals have behind the plate. I doubt catcher is a position they put a lot of value in at the moment.
