Aaron Hernandez - TE - Patriots

In a statement, Aaron Hernandez's attorney, Michael K. Fee, denied a report that an arrest warrant has been issued for his client.

It's believed the obstruction-of-justice warrant was filled out, but never filed. "Over the past week, our client, Aaron Hernandez, has been the subject of a relentless flood of rumors, misinformation, and false reports in the media," Fee said. "These include the repeated publication of a supposedly confirmed report that an arrest warrant had been issued for Aaron, a report that was exposed as untrue. None of these false reports come from official sources and we appreciate the professionalism and restraint shown by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office." Hernandez is very much NOT out of the woods, but no arrest appears imminent despite three separate searches of his home and its surroundings.

Aaron Hernandez - TE - Patriots

ESPN Boston wouldn't rule out the Patriots releasing Aaron Hernandez even if he avoids murder charges in the Odin Lloyd case.

Respected reporter Mike Reiss is just responding to a hypothetical in a mailbag column, but imagines the Pats "feel a bit betrayed by Hernandez after they made a big financial commitment to him just 10 months ago." NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported last week that the Patriots may not be able to recover Hernandez's guaranteed 2013-14 base salaries, which would obviously be a major factor in this scenario.

Hernandez was just arrested

Police-a them-a they come and-a they blow down me door
One him come crawl through through my window
So they put me in the back of the car at the station
From that point on I reach my destination
Now the destination reached was the East Detention
Where they whipped down my pants and looked up my bottom

Informer
You know say Daddy Hernandez me, I'm gonna blame
A licky boom-boom down
'Tective man says Daddy Hernandez stabbed someone down the lane
A licky boom-boom down

Aaron Hernandez - TE - Patriots

Aaron Hernandez was taken out of his house in handcuffs Wednesday morning.

At roughly 8:45 a.m. ET, authorities knocked on Hernandez's door. He answered without a shirt on and looked surprised when told he was being taken into custody. Hernandez was placed in handcuffs and led to a police vehicle. As of now, we don't know exactly what the charge is. Reports from last week stated an arrest warrant had been issued for obstruction of justice. Hernandez allegedly destroyed his cell phone and home security system in the hours following the murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Surveillance video showed Hernandez and Lloyd together hours before the murder.

No waiting: Patriots release Aaron Hernandez

Patriots waived TE Aaron Hernandez.

The Patriots clearly have no faith that Hernandez will be exonerated following his Wednesday morning arrest. They're willing to eat a ton of money in bonuses and guaranteed base salaries, and will be facing roughly $10 million in dead money against the salary cap over the next two seasons. The Pats are also left with perhaps the weakest group of pass-catchers in the entire NFL. Their statement: "A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do." Hernandez is now subject to waivers, meaning any team can submit a claim. We'd be shocked if anyone does.

Wow. Didn't anticipate them moving that quickly. Do they know something? Or just have no faith that Hernandez will stay out of trouble?

Picking up Ballard off waivers may turn out to be a brilliant move for them.

I think Gronk is gonna have a stupid good year.. I don't care that he might miss the first two weeks. He is gonna rack up so many fantasy football points.

Good call on Ballard. Surprised that the She-Men let him go, seems like the perfect fit for that offensive system.

I don't think the Giants thought anyone would pick him up. They were pissed the Pats did so.

The Pats think they're the smartest guys in the room. They're right, of course, but it's still annoying.

I don't think the smartest guys in the room would get burned by Hernandez like this. That's a major blow to them in terms of talent on the field and dead money. Could have been worse in terms of the dead money, but it's not good.

Silly question because I don't know better but is dead money always paid to the player being released/traded? Or is just an accounting thing in some instances? I know players are owed the guaranteed, just wondering if there are exceptions. Could the Patriots file some sort of action against Hernandez to keep the money? If so, is it removed from the salary cap or is it just kept and the value counts? Is this guaranteed money just a risk they took and so what for what he did? If they kept him, they could suspend him, but that doesn't have much to do with salary cap, does it? Would any action be separate legal thing and not NFL thing? (I don't think so, just asking.)
