It's probably a deal sweetener like free window tint on a new car. Nothing more.
Donaldson read in a report he called the Boras Corp that stated it would have cost 148 mil in NY to equal the 130 mil in Arlington so in this case it was more than window tint plus Choo liked Texas st in ARZ.

"I'm not so sure anymore we try to get a top pitcher on the market kind of guy. Looks more like we want to keep our prospects and just try to get a middle of the rotation dude. Masterson fits that bill, along with several others. I think a big trade for an ace pitcher is out of the question at this point."

I agree with this sentiment.

I wonder if we could get pittsburgh to part with gerrit cole or taillon if we threw enough at them. They've already called us for moreland this week. That would be so freaking nice. Have those guys under control for years to come and actually CUT salary in the process

I have a feeling he was always going to end up here.

Well we got him, 7 years seems a little long to me but I know he will help the offense immensely. I still would have preferred getting Cruz and maybe still going after another big fish but perhaps that wasn't an option regardless. I sure will miss Cruz but look forward to seeing how Choo can boost this offense.

I read that report too, and it also said something like he thought there were some parts of dallas that would blend well in raising his kids (I'm assuming its the school district like what my friend told me) and that he was also excited about the growing korean population? I knew there were some reasons he liked the area, didn't think it was that lol

Won't argue that but there was a case here involving tax and cost of living that cinched your feeling.

Only thing that worries me is choo vs left handed pitching. Other than that, I'd say Choo was a superb signing. But I got an interesting text.

"I'm about to go to bed, but there is some chatter about justin masterson. I know you like him so I thought I'd mention it. Maybe we could get him for relatively cheap. Get a pretty decent righty and getting to keep our top young guys would be the absolute best case scenario."

Gotta love guys that throw the sinker in our park. I doubt he would be cheap though.

I expect to get five really good years from him. I think this contract will be solid by the end at the very least.

I will say, I'm fairly happy we are trying to make a trade for a pitcher NOW. I agree with what romeo thinks about the trade deadline. Its simply not as relevant as it was 2-3 years ago because of the wild card slot. Good franchises make their big changes now, not in july. Not done yet though. 2 more stages of the "master plan" yet to unfold. Today was a good day, but we want more we want more like we like it we want more. I'm gonna go to bed. I'm still in maryland so I might not be on all that much tomorrow, but if I hear anything big in the works I'll try to sneak on for a post. G'night

The choice trade may end up being better fruits than we anticipated. Now it's the time to look into bolstering our rotation since we've addressed or greater concerns already.

I don't see why the Indians would trade Masterson right now unless they are asking for a pitcher back. Ubaldo is also a FA. A playoff team to dropping their 2 best pitchers from last year? I'm having a hard time seeing that one happen.

I've thought about Jimenez, but have a feeling he'll want to be paid like a top tier pitcher, which he's not.

My wife asked me if there was anything else I wanted for Christmas. I said, "I got choo. I'm good."

Eh. He's been inconsistent his whole career. I'd rather have Masterson because of the sinker, but neither have me very excited. Gerritt Cole on the other hand....

Not thrilled with either to be honest. Question is, how shrewd do the pirates want to be in a deal for Moreland?

I feel pretty sure the Pirates would want a ton for Cole
