Jordan is the goat, he’s my number one pick if I’m building a franchise, NOBODY can stop Mike, he was the Jedi of the game …

MJ is still an all time great

But he IS the most overrated defender of all time

Barely top 150 all time in defensive rating and that's with spending the majority of his career guarding the oppositions 2nd or 3rd option
Defensive rating is a meaningless stat. Gar Heard is the all-time leader in that stat. Gary Payton isn't even Top 200. Blake Griffin and Carlos Boozer have multiple seasons finishing Top 10 in this category.

Your claim at the end is also false; Jackson and Johnny Bach have both said Jordan was the better man-to-man defender than Pippen.

I realize I'm months behind on this since I didn't have an account here unti recently, but I just wanted to make a few points.

1. Stats are never the primary determining factor in DPOY voting. If they were, Dennis Rodman would have never won the award. So even if some of his steals and blocks are inflated, it doesn't mean he didn't make a good defensive play, albeit one that doesn't show up on a stat sheet.

2. His claims about the home scorekeeper inflating his stats are based on the large difference between home and away steals. There's two problems here A). By his own admission, the major discrepancy was only in this season. Why would the home scorekeeper only do it that one year but never any season afterward? B). He never considers the possibility that visiting scorekeepers could also be depressing his numbers, thus making this argument disingenuous.

3. Under the NBA rulebook, most of the plays he cites as being not real steals are, in fact, steals. He's basing this on his personal bias, not objective fact.

4. This agenda-driven nonsense is actually an argument AGAINST LeBron's GOAT case; because like most Bron GOAT arguments, it's based on tearing another player down rather than simply letting LeBron's resume speak for itself.

Yet they put Pippen on the other teams best player

Si that's weird

Wrong. It depended on who they were playing on any given night. Jackson's matchups were almost always position based.
I see you are new to the board. Who is your nba team?

You mean the series where Jordan guarded Magic about 85% of the time?

:laugh3:

You sure about that? Here's an article for you from SI.

Scottie Pippen on locking up Magic Johnson in 1991 Finals: "I was ready for the challenge"

You should read it. It explains how Pippen was put on Magic after game one because MJ got in foul trouble.

Small part of the article.

For all the hype surrounding the Michael vs. Magic matchup, Pippen stood out on his own. Holding Magic to 39% shooting after game one.

This argument is as silly as asking if you would rather be punched in the face by Ali or Tyson in their prime.

just like everyone who reaches legend status, their legend status makes people think they were actually better than they were... and we all forget all the criticisms

Crazy he said MJ guarded Magic 85% of the time. Wonder if he watched those Finals?

Literally every game from that series is on YouTube. Aside from Game 2, Jordan guarded Magic almost exclusively. Pippen had one quarter on Magic in Game 3 and occasional spots in Games 4 and 5. And it was during Pippen's stretch in Game 3 when the Lakers built a 13-point lead, after which Jordan was put back on Magic for the rest of that game and the rest of the series.

BTW, even in Game 2 Magic repeatedly burned Pippen only for another defender to bail him out.

Maybe you should try actually watching games.

I've watched every game on YouTube. Game 2 is the only game where Pippen was on Magic for a significant amount of time.

Your memory is faulty and has bought into narratives instead.

I thought Jordan was a Dbag. I also think Jordan was the GOAT to ever suit up. I hated to see Jordan win those titles. Jordan was an athletic freak

So you choose to ignore the article I mentioned that goes against what you wanna believe? Alrighty then.
