I love when people who have lists drastically different than consensus picks, try to claim they are the only person who has watched basketball for the past 30 years.

Hate to break the news to ya, Skippy, but most of the regular posters in this forum have been watching basketball for decades.

personally been following the game for going on 50 years. stat geeking, different rules, and i guess a lotta eye testing goes into one's opinion. lol is what it is, i guess...:noidea:

But you calling people illogical who rank him top 4 and acting like everyone else couldn't have seen these guys play is out of line. Many people much smarter than you agree with LBJ being top 4.

I don't call them illogical. I just laugh at them. But that's just my opinion.

Don't let that upset you.

Then why aren't they all at the top of the All time rebounding list like Wilt and Russell?

Wilt has the most rebounds in NBA History.

Guess who #6 and 9 are?

Duncan and Garnett, Dudes that played in the same era as Shaq.

They have from 1-2,000 career boards more than Shaq because he was lazy.

I love the guy. But, he was out of shape and lazy at times.

He was not better than Wilt.....imo

Yes I agree, he was very lazy. But you're posting total rebound numbers when earlier you were comparing 'per game' numbers.

Shaq vs Wilt is extremely tough to figure. Players from before the ABA merger are almost impossible to evaluate.

Personally I gave the edge to Shaq in my ranking. I agree 100% that Shaq is lazy and Wilt defitenly had a longer span of complete and utter dominance, but he also had a 4 inch height advantage over most of the players guarding him and he isn't as big as Shaq.

Clearly Wilt would be great in any era, even today's centerless game, but I just can't see him outproducing Shaq if he played in the same era.

Really though, that one is just a guess. Anybody who tells you they know the answer to that one is lying.

That same list has Dwight Howard higher than Dennis Rodman.

How many people would say Dwight was the 'better' rebounder?

Sure.

But even your personal observation has limited utility due to things like recency bias and nostalgia.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But some opinions seem pretty clearly biased in various ways.
Oh, I agree.

I hate Kobe and constantly rank Duncan ahead of him if it's even slightly reasonable.

But, I value my credibility enough not to suggest that guys like Wade or Reggie Miller were better.

With that being said, the Lebron vs. Kobe debate is not the one sided slaughter some claim it to be.

I think Lebron is better.

But, people choosing Kobe is not that big of a stretch depending on what you value.

At this stage of his career lebron would never go to a team where he wasn't given the keys to the city. His ego is too big for that.

Are Howard and Rodman comparable players in your opinion?

One guy is 6'6 and the other 6'10?

I mean, Howard's life would be a lot easier if he embraced that type of role.

But, Rodman didn't start until he was in the 4th year of his career and only played 12 games his final Season.

That skews his stats a bit.

So, no.. Howard is not a better rebounder.

All he did was score more.

Shit comparison by the way...

Rebounding is one facet of the game.

Wilt leads Shaq in several.....INCLUDING THAT ONE.

Again, you're comparing two players who played 40 years apart. You think Shaq wouldn't be averaging 40 and 25 in the 60s?

He whores Shaq there too.

No two people see things the same way.

But, unlike the Lebron Kobe debate, this comparison seems obvious.

Well...to me anyway.

Shaq played 19 Seasons to Wilt's 14.

Yet, Wilt dominates him in every category statistically per year and cumulatively.

The only thing that gives me reason to pause is level of competition.

Did you read the comments?

I don't know who this guy is. But, what he attempted to do was actually fascinating.

Problem is he did it wrong and admitted as much when called on it.

Wilt's stats are still better.

Cool stuff. I was searching and yours was the only article online I found attempting this sort of thing. I have my own excel spreadsheet with era-adjusted numbers, but my results are a little different. Did you adjust for LG assist %?

All stats are per 40 minutes, from 1960-69, adjusted to the 2012-13 LG environment.

WC 25.2 ppg, 15.1 rpg, 3.7 apg, .612 efg%

BR 11.4 ppg, 14.8 rpg, 3.9 apg, .507 efg%
OR 23.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 9.2 apg, .559 efg%
JW 24.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 5.5 apg, .538 efg%
EB 24.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 4.2 apg, .496 efg%
BP 24.1 ppg, 12.2 rpg, 3.2 apg, .522 efg%

I did not adjust for league assist % and not doing so threw off the results particularly for Oscar and West (moreso Oscar). I scaled league eFG% and used that data to modify scoring and available rebounds, but it didn’t even occur to me to adjust for assist %. Nice job!

This is true.

Still, it's fun to debate New Shaq vs.Old Shaq.

I grudgingly agree about the level of competition.

But, I think with the advancement in Sports Science, Wilt would have been a even bigger Monster in today's NBA.
