Well it is just weird business wise. I know I am bias and want him gone but if they are going to extend he needs at least a 3 year deal but I just can’t see any intelligent business person guaranteeing Jerry’s 9 years with Jerry’s resume. It is kind of like Larry Scott with the Pac 12 where he failed with his first vision, then laid a great plan in place then completely failed at it and the public forced him out more than his bosses did. Ownership cannot allow Jerry to fail next year and let the Kraken become the number 2 team in the market with the threat of the Sonics on the horizon.
That's fair. I just don't really see what the Mariners could've offered that would've come close to what the Blue Jays gave up without giving up at least Kirby or Hancock. Apparently the two teams weren't close to a deal because the Twins were insisting on the package include either Hancock or Kirby. For what it's worth, I think the Twins absolutely won that trade. Berrios is a good pitcher, but not an ace. IMO the Blue Jays gave the equivalent of an ace for Berrios.Eh, we can agree to disagree on the Berrios price. Do all teams want one of the 4 Mariners prospects, for sure but getting 3 of the next level plus giving up a guy like say a Dylan Moore or Torrens type would work. The Mariners have depth of prospects and they need to deal them.
I may be way off of the price it would’ve taken for Berrios. But the Castillo trade alone makes me think that other organizations love the Mariners farm system. Shenton was sky rocketing up the rankings and no one in Seattle even really knew he was until he got traded. Kirby and Hancock are guys who everyone wants but Marco, Flexen, Dunn and Sheffield (Kukuchi probably can’t be dealt) should all be on the table if the Mariners have two untouchable pitching prospects. Let alone no idea if Williamson is an untouchable but the way it reads online he is pushing himself into that category. That's fair. Well then they can go at the end of the year. This lineup rolls out multiple sub .700 OPS guys nightly and if they arent giving it there all they dont deserve roster spots period.Say what you want about it being unprofessional or whatever, but it's pretty clear to me after tonight's game that a lot of players on this team have quit after the Graveman trade.
