Since we aren't winning dick this year, I want to see if one of these fringy/younger guys are actually worth a lick instead of wasting valuable time experimenting in a year they're trying to compete. We know who Pablo is.

Me personally, I'm not going to tune in to watch Pablo. I'm more inclined to see what Connor Joe's got, though.

^^^ I agree 100%

I could be wrong on this, but my interpretation of MSG's post is that he'd rather see Sandoval than Solarte. But that is just me.

I'd rather see a younger person with little or no MLB experience who might surprise me than a 'vet' who we KNOW what will give us, and won't be on the team next year anyways. So that translate, in any language (not just Italian) to "Flush that fat piece of lard Sandoval".

I’m not for or against it, but I legit have no idea what the FO is doing.

Giants acquire Kratz from Brewers.

Dude's only 38, going to be 39 during the season.

What? Wasn't Pudge available? Dude could really swing it, and was a great defensive catcher, and a 14 time all star. And he could be catching his son!

I’m gonna guess you either haven’t read my prior posts today or you think that Hinojosa and Lopez were going to be underrated, yet valuable pieces to the Giants next WS.
I wasn’t attacking you in any way. Just posting my frustration in trying to figure out this trade.

And no, I don’t see Hinojosa or Lopez as valuable pieces of a championship team. But I also think there is more potential that either will play some part in a championship effort than Kratz does. Kratz is a 1-year backup on a team that didn’t need that. Why give up future assets, again no matter how minor, to get what you don’t need in the first place?

Technically, Kratz is a 2 year pick up as this offseason will be his final arbitration year. However, I doubt he even lasts long enough to go into the arbitration process with the Giants.

This is his 39 season.

He is a 1-year player.

What the heck is Zaidi doing? Three catchers? Thirteen pitchers? I'll go out on a limb and say this, Mac Williamson probably will not be on the OP roster. I hate that thought but I think that between Joe, Reed and Solarte, they go by committee on left field.

Pitchers (13): Bergen (25), Moronta (26), Rodriguez (26), Stratton (28), Bumgarner (29), Simth (29), Dyson (30), Pomeranz (30), Holland (32), Vincent (32), Watson (33), Melancon (34), Samardzija (34)
Catchers (2): Murphy (28), Posey (32), Kratz (38)
Infielders (6): Joe (26), Panik (28), Belt (30), Solarte (31), Crawford (32), Longoria (33)
Outfielders (4): Duggar (25), Reed (26), Parra (31)

Update number 54628...

Locks (bubbles)

SP (5/5): Bum, Sammy, Dutch, DRod, PomPom
Bully (5/8): Smith, Watson, Moronta, Dyson, Vincent (MM, Bergen, Gott, Stratton, Blach, Suarez)
C (2/2): Posey, Kratz (Murphy)
Inf (5/6): Belt, Panik, Craw, Longo, Solarte (Hanson, Sandoval, Joe)
OF (3/4): Dugger, Mac, Parra (Joe, Reed, Ramos)

Vincent, Solarte, and Parra would require 40-spots. In this scenario, MM, Sandoval and Hanson would likely be gone.

Apparently Kratz has already been named the BU catcher. I think that was done pre-Murphy, so who knows.

I am stuck between :gaah: and :noidea:

The chatter I'm getting from the team is that all of Posey, Kratz and Murphy will make the team. I don't understand the sudden obsession with getting a back up catcher. Why stash Vogt away at Sacramento? Is there a thing this FO has against players under the age of 30 on the 40 man roster?

Murphy never really got a fair shot in Colorado, but he's got legit power and bats right-handed.

I think they're going to try to sneak him through waivers.

Updated for the Stratton deal...

Locks (bubbles)

SP (5/5): Bum, Sammy, Dutch, DRod, PomPom
Bully (5/8): Smith, Watson, Moronta, Dyson, Vincent (MM, Bergen, Gott, Blach, Suarez)
C (2/2): Posey, Kratz (Murphy)
Inf (5/6): Belt, Panik, Craw, Longo, Solarte (Hanson, Sandoval, Joe)
OF (3/4): Dugger, Mac, Parra (Joe, Reed, Ramos)

Vincent, Solarte, and Parra would require 40-spots. With Stratton gone, I think that opens a slot for MM. In this scenario, Sandoval, Hanson and Murphy would likely be gone. I think they try to slip Murphy through waivers

MM may still be in trouble if they decide to go with 3 catchers, though. If they decide to dump Mac as sfgrtb suggests, that may re-open the door for MM.

The FO is cornering the market on catchers. Other teams cannot win games if they don't have catchers.
One thing I hadn’t considered is that Farhan either has stock or was an early investor into MLBtraderumors.com?

That makes the backup 3rd baseman expendable.

Giants trade Chris Stratton to Angels for reliever

Strat gone. Jerez is a 26 y/o LHP reliever with a wildness issue. Traded one minute before midnight.

Wheeling and dealing is now the new normal. We’re used to checkers, and FZ is either a moron or is playing multidimensional chess.

We shall see.

Solid move IMO. Stratton wasn't going to make the team, they get a lefty with decent stuff, but more importantly options.
