I was "stuck" because I had to be admitted to the hospital and have an emergency operation, followed by 8 days "at home" (where I was staying) in bed, 20/24. And yet, it still isn't the worst trip I've ever been on in my life, believe it or not. (The hospital staff were amazingly good and highly qualified - my surgeon was one of the top specialists in France in his field - if it had to happen, I "lucked out" that it happened when and where it did. Seriously, you don't want some random newly graduated resident mucking around inside your eyeball with a laser scalpel. Not to mention the price difference ... two day hospital stay, including dicey surgery and all anesthesia and drugs and etc. was .... a tad under $2000. And that was FULL PRICE - everybody in the hospital was shocked that my insurance wouldn't be covering any of it; their insurance would have covered 80-95% of the cost.)

Oh, and it is official (because I can swear to it) : the hospital nurses in France are MUCH prettier than the ones in the US. And they flirt with older patients, especially ones with "sexy accents" (or so I was told - apparently a slight American accent in French is somewhat sexy).

Charlie Culberson getting non-tendered by the Braves (I keep expecting him to be older, but he doesn't 31 until next April). Its been rumored but somewhat surprised that they did that. His numbers aren't that bad for a versatile utility guy. His arb numbers projected to 1.88 million. If he was a lefty, I wouldn't mind the Giants signing him to fill that the spot the FZ wants.

Yup, saw that but it got lost in the 4 guys our FO didn't tender contracts to. Neither of these guys had a good year so it is not surprising. I assume that both will land minor league deals somewhere. Culberson, however, I think has a chance on a big league deal (although, with a glut of middle infielders on the market, that may not be easy).

Interesting that he gets a big league deal. He was a guy that I was mildly surprised didn't get promoted in September and for whom I thought deserved a spot more than Franco.

Well, he didn't get promoted in Sep because the Giants cut him the day after they acquired him. (OK, outrighted to the minors - he wasn't on the 40 man) He was collateral damage in the Mark Melancon trade.

I understand that but they could have made room for him on the 40 man. They kept him for a reason, depth, and that is what the expanded rosters in September are for. They just decided to go with Enderson Franco instead.

The expanded rosters in Sep were to allow a bunch of players on the 40-man but not in the majors, to be able to play in the majors.

I say "were" because it is severely limited moving forward (starting in 2020, rosters will only expand from 26 to 28 players in Sep).
