CF.

I have no idea if Gerber is a passable CFer. But he is really the only guy who had any chance who was cut who could play CF (outside of Ferguson)
I'd take decent, with his bat, over Maybin's defense and awful bat. But I don't know how Gerber grades defensively in center field.

Is Parra still a CF option? His D still grades as plus (I think), so maybe he will be the bu CF option?

I hope the Giants go with this option, make him the 4th guy and he could get playing time at all three spots. Make Joe the starting right fielder and keep Sandoval.

I just don’t see Hanson making the team. Dude is a stud athlete, but is still WAY too raw at this point in his career to warrant keeping around.

I do think this move locks Maybin into the opening 25, though.

Well THAT one didn't age well....

The Giants released Cameron Maybin. They’ve been talking to other teams about outfielders.

Parra is starting in CF tonight...

Looks like FZ got the memo from the previous administration to keep an eye on this site for roster ideas...

Updated (again)...

SP: Bum, Sammy, DRod, Dutch, PomPom
RP: Smith, Watson, Moronta, Bergen, Dyson, Stratton, Gott, Vincent
C: Posey, Rivera
Inf: Belt, Panik, Crawford, Longoria, Joe, Solarte
OF: Mac, Dugger, Parra, Gerber(???)

40 cuts: MM, Okert, Sandoval, Coonrod(??)

Keeping Gerber would require an additional casualty, though. Maybe Garcia makes the team instead of Rivera just for roster management reasons?

I mean they just need someone who can fake it in CF and give Duggar a break. A platoon option would be nice, but they just need someone there. Parra and Gerber perhaps.

I like this, except I'd punt Stratton for Melancon or Hanson.

I agree it'll be tough to keep him around. I like the idea of Hanson and Solarte platooning at 2nd base and getting something for Panik, but that looks unlikely right now.

Panik has little trade value right now, and he seems to be almost the EXACT player FZ likes to acquire, sans power.

Money is a sunk cost, so let’s ignore $$ for now...

Would you prefer to have 5 years of Stratton or 2 years of MM? To me, that is a no-brainer.

MM for Vincent, Okert for Rivera, Sandoval for Solarte and Hanson for Gerber.

I think Stratton gets through waivers. And right now I still think MM is a better pitcher.

Locks (bubbles)

SP (5/5): Bum, Sammy, Dutch, DRod, PomPom
Bully (5/8): Smith, Watson, Moronta, Dyson, Vincent (MM, Bergen, Gott, Stratton, Blach, Suarez)
C (1/2): Posey (Garcia, Rivera, Vogt)
Inf (5/6): Belt, Panik, Craw, Longo, Solarte (Hanson, Sandoval, Joe)
OF (3/4): Dugger, Mac, Parra (Joe, Joyce, Gerber, Garcia)

I know that technically, Gerber has already been cut, but I think there is still a slight chance he makes the team.

Here's something interesting that I saw just now on the team's website:

"Veteran Rene Rivera and rookie Aramis Garcia continue to compete for the backup catcher job, but Bochy said Stephen Vogt has agreed to open the season at Triple-A Sacramento. Vogt is coming off shoulder surgery and he has not yet caught in a Cactus League game.

“He’s going to go down and continue to play in Sacramento,” Bochy said. “He’s not quite ready to catch, but he’s getting close and doing some catching on the Minor League side. He just needs a little bit more time.”"

I thought I read somewhere that Vogt had actually caught in a couple of games. Apparently, either what I read was wrong or I read it wrong.
