I hope so too. We should know more about Cruz soon. Merry Christmas to you too.
Everything is marked down now JD. Get out there and grab some of these bargains and get us a DH and anything else we need. We are a bunch of greedy kids and we deserve anything we want.

I hate corporate sponsor names, especially after you've become accustomed to something else

I'd just assume pass, we don't need it

Agreed. Besides Rangers Ballpark in Arlington is already too long a name

I don't care what they call the field. I will still call it RBiA anyway. So if they wanna bring in some extra cash to supplement the revenue, then cash in on that.

Reading about tanaka posting on LSB and someone posted details of Grienkes contract...really strange clause

■6 years/$147M (2013-18)
■signed by LA Dodgers as a free agent 12/10/12
■$12M signing bonus (paid in multiple installments, 12/2012 – 2/2014)
■13:$17M, 14:$24M, 15:$23M, 16:$24M, 17:$23M, 18:$24M
■Greinke may opt out of contract after 2015 season
■if traded, Greinke receives $3M assignment bonus and may opt out of the contract at season’s end
■2018 salary increases by $2M with 1,000 innings pitched in 2013-17
■if Greinke wins Cy Young, his salary for the following season increases by $1M ($0.5M increase with 2-5 finish in Cy Young vote)
■if Greinke wins 2018 Cy Young, he receives a $1M award bonus ($0.5M award bonus with 2-5 finish in 2018 Cy Young vote

Instant opt out if he's traded, never seen that before

Looks like that's in place of as no trade clause

did i hear correctly that Choo and the Rangers agreed to delay 5M of his 1st year salary to make it easier for the Rangers to sign other players?

I saw something along those lines somewhere, throw 5 million extra at Morales for the first year and regular salaries after that haha

It's becoming more and more common for salaries to be deferred in sports. Back loaded contracts are a way to generate surplus value, keep current payrolls lower, and account for WAR per dollar adjustment over time.

Wasn't it called Ameriquest Field in Arlington for a couple years? Mid 2000's I believe, is Ameriquest not a corporate sponsor?

Personally I'm not a fan of renaming the stadium, money or not, I do have a sort personal nostalgia about RBIA, I remember not liking the name Ameriquest Field at all

I completely forgot about it being called Ameriquest Field until you mentioned it.

The Houston rockets have several backloaded contracts. At the end of the deal, the contract could become a poison pill tho....

The Lin and Asik contracts are evenly dispersed for Rockets' salary cap purposes. It was only a poison pill if the Knicks/Bulls matched bc they'd have to pay actual value structure ( 5-5-15).

Very good point.

And it may only be me, but I swear, I'm content to leave for ST today with the 40 man roster we have (less one since Choo isn't on it yet).

Between Moreland, Choice, Arencibia, and the regulars who need a 1/2 day off, our DH position isn't as dire as some suspect IMO.

Agreed. Adding someone like Morales would be nice, but not imperative. I don't think the rangers are done adding pieces, but they've filled their vital needs. As it stands they should be considered favorites to contend with Oakland for the AL West, and personally I'd consider us the favorites, period. I won't hate it if they sign Cruz or Morales, but I won't lose sleep either if they don't.

Well and succinctly said.....

And like you, and candidly, I'd love to see us add Morales rather than Cruz really. Icing on our rather nice off season cake IMO.

But again....well said.

It's not that it's back loaded it's just deferred, slightly different, just like how we still owed padmy & a-roid money after their contracts were done
