Seen so far:
Midnight meat train- Pretty good
The Babadook- Cool movie
Would you rather- Not seen it yet
It follows- Pretty good. Interesting concept.
Sinister- Again, a pretty good one. Part 2 is also worth watching but not as good as the first.
Preservation- Not seen it
The Hallow- Ok Irish movie. Evil fairies.
Hush- I was surprised at how good this one was. A very good companion piece to Don't Breathe
Troll hunter- Eh. A lot of people liked it. The troll was cool.
They look like people- Didn't see
Eyes of my mother- Didn't see
Horseman- Didn't see
The Wailing- Didn't see
The invitation- Strange one. I didn't really connect with it.

My notes are shown above.
Search this thread and you will find reviews on most of these (mostly from Face).

Make sure to see Pet (excellent movie), The Autopsy of Jane Doe (actually freaked me out a little, which doesn't really happen anymore. Kept seeing the vacant open eyes when I tried to go to sleep).

Some others worht checking out if you havn't seen already: The Conjuring; As Above, So Below; Green Room, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Don't Breathe, Insidious 1 and 2, Ouija the Origin of Evil (was surprisingly decent. Don't get the first Oujia movie though as that sucked),

I am going to watch Split soon. It is supposed to be very good.

I'm sure Face has some more suggestions.

I'm a real fan of Flanagan's now. I really liked Hush. And now that he took gawd-awful Quija and actually turned it into decent film really put it over the top for me. The Autopsy of Jane Doe and The Devils Candy are 2 of the better horror movies I've seen in a while. Good suggestions.

Sweet. Speaking of Flanagan, Absentia was another good one of his too.

Been a while since I've seen it, but I do recall enjoying it a lot. An underrated gem of sorts.

The Bye Bye Man (2017)

This movie had a decent premise, but the progression sort of flopped. Not to mention it was chalked full of plot holes & clichés. It started off strong, albeit short & brutal, and provides some good background & thrilling 1st looks at the antagonist. But from there it fails to really build much momentum nor does it achieve anything. The antagonist was an interesting concept, even if it was a blatant rip-off of the Candyman. Mainly the idea of it being some sort of reaper that can warp our behavior. So in a way its some sort of Freddy Krueger (Nightmare On Elm Street) hybrid. The cgi was decent when obscured, but when it was brought into the light it looked pretty cheesy (especially the dog). In a nutshell, the film is essentially about a cliché group of college students (the jock, the princess, & the outcast) who stumble onto a haunted nightstand and barely grasp its implications before they are slaughtered lol. Sadly we only get to see Carrie-Anne Moss and Faye Dunaway for brief periods of the movie. Would have liked to see both better utilized rather than watching the cattle meat-sacks parade around aimlessly for the duration of the film. Overall I'd say it wasn't really good but it wasn't terrible considering some decent visuals, plot twists, and good cinematography. It was an interesting watch & had some sinister moments worth watching, but it will most likely come off as comical to most. Wouldn't recommend it unless you had some booze on-hand with the intent to drink it.

Can one of you asshats please put the coat in the closet already? 5/10

Just tried to watch From Beneath, but the movie I downloaded turned out to be Lake Fear, aka Cypress Creek, aka From Beneath (Apparently they couldn't decide on a name).
Four young ladies decide to go out into the woods to camp out in a supposably deserted cabin which turns out to be haunted/possessed byredneck pig people, weird ghosts, and (maybe) various other entities. I can't go to far into specifics as I just couldn't force myself to watch more than about 40 minutes of it, then I jumped ahead several times for a few minutes of watch time before giving up.

This one has it all! The plot is as convoluted and confused as the 3 possible title selections. They throw a dozen or so different cliches at the story and do a pretty poor job on all of them. The girls are cute enough but not hot-hot by film standards, and they are all quite bad actresses. To top off the insults, they talk a dirty game and strip down to their undergarments at the drop of a dime but refuse to show even a single ta-ta, thus breaking a serious rule of low budget horror. Also, the cabin, supposably deserted and way out in the middle of nowhere is in great shape, well furnished with a bunch of rooms and (somehow) electric lights and a tv!

About a 3 out of 10 for not horrible production values, a decent soundtrack, and some ok fxs (ok when you compare it to the rest of the package at least). Avoid!

I also finally was able to watch The Devil's Candy as per the recs here. A good horror film with very good acting and a great soundtrack. Character develppment was very good. However I wished for a bit more depth into the story.

One question: At the end he started uncovering what I can only assume was cases with bodies in them. Is that correct? And what was the symbolism of the light shining down?

Also just finished watching Bereavement, a 2010 serial killer flick.

Not spectacular, but not bad either. A pretty basic story with an added twist. A good bit of slicing -n- dicing going on. Production values, acting, storyline, fxs, etc are solid. It is good to see Michael Biehn get a little work!

I would give it somewhere in the 6 out of 10 range. Worth a watch for the horror fan.

Just watched Split. Very good flick! M. Night Shamwhatever has been trying hard to redeem himself with the likes of The Visit, Devil, and now Split.

I certainly was not expecting the twist. Without saying more, I assume we will be seeing more on this subject in the future!

I really wanna see it. Common knowledge on this thread that M. is one of my favorite subjects, and from everything I've heard and read, he's hit a home run with this one.

If I'm not mistaken, it will be on HBO (along with Suicide Squad) in another week or so.

So no spoilers just yet, please! ;)

M. Night certainly hits both the highs and the lows. When I first saw The Sixth Sense I was totally blown away. It is still on of my all time favs. Unbreakable was good. Signs was good until the ridiculous ending. The Village was also solid. Then he started stumbling. I actually liked The Lady in the Water, but I was not in the majority on that one. The Happening was so ridiculous I kept found myself laughing during some scenes. I could not bring myself to watch The Last Airbender or AfterEarth (of course I won't watch anything with Will Smith's talentless demon spawn as a lead). Devil was very good (he didn't direct but wrote and produced it), The Visit was chilling, and now Split.

One career rarely sees the pinacle and the pit like his. It certainly is an interesting ride. I am always left wondering if his next attempt will be genius or horrible.

Gotta disagree with you on The Village, although it has a place in my heart as one of the top "Movies You Love to Hate".

I did love Invincible. Totally agree about The Last Airbender and AfterEarth. I honestly had no idea that M. directed that last one.

I need to rewatch The Village. I haven't seen it since it's initial release.

Note: I mis-stated Unbreakable as Invincible. I was fast enough to edit it on my own post but obviously not fast enough to catch your response.

I will state this much: If you loved Unbreakable, you need to see Split as soon as possible. Do it today Chef!

Lol, you said Invincible and I followed right along. Was going to mention the sequel as well. ;)

I think the Sixth Sense, Unbreakable & Split are his best works to date. Loved Devil. Very simplistic, but incredibly in-depth. Signs & The Village had endings that sort of ruined the overall experience. Both were unique & intriguing though. The Visit had its flaws, but had some decent moments so overall wasn't bad. The Lady In the Water was strange. I found the story to be very enthralling when I first saw it, but the more I watched it the more I hated it. Not sure what I found so interesting in the first place lol. The Happening was just bad. Never saw the Last Airbender or AfterEarth. But I completely agree with the demon spawn sentiment. That kid is a tard.
