Trading Ragans was a mistake. Never giving him SP opportunities was another example of how we mismanage pitching prospects in the organization. He will likely slot in as a #3 or #4 in KC long term.
Let me know when Leiter and Rocker are ready to roll in the bigs. Not holding my breath.

he was in the rotation last season when called up. made 9 starts.

they decided to go in a different direction with SP's in the offseason (signing established vets) and moved him to the BP, and the jury is out on whether that was a mistake or not.

True but maybe if we had rolled him out there for 2 or 3 or 4 seasons he might have turned out to be a good #5

there are still Rangers fans who want to bring Gallo back, and his stats are absurdly bad this year.

some fans feel like success has to be achieved with their guy, otherwise it's not as meaningful. it's a bizarre sentiment, but to each their own.

Eovaldi was a slip. Yes they could have offered others for Chapman but sometimes quantity won’t swing the deal. I think KC made it clear of what they wanted back and the FO made the decision that as much as they didn’t want to give Ragans it was either him or no deal
This could be true. I was hoping they could give up a position player which they need
Obviously to make a run at the playoffs Chapman so far has proven valuable.

And chuckles to holding ion to prospects and breath waiting for it to turn out ok

Other issue may be that pitchers just meet their potential better elsewhere. Maybe Ragans was just not in his optimal place here
Hard to know

Also, we should probably give it more than 3 starts before anointing him as a future Cy Young candidate.

KC has pitching issues throughout their system and they made it clear that they were looking for good pitching returns on the players they were willing to trade. I don’t know if as you said “maybe Ragans was just not his optimal place here” but I think they looked up and down their prospects list and decided that he was the obvious choice

I don’t think they dislike him I think they looked at their bounty of good prospects and made a decision based on that.
Are you sure they thought that?

The trad is a non-issue to me. What KC wanted or would have taken is not important to me at this point.

The mishandling of starting pitching prospects by a team that already has a terrible history of developing them, is the biggest issue, by far, where Ragans is concerned.

Okay how would you have handled Ragans? What moves would you not have done and what moves would you done instead?

Yes. That is it exactly. The problem wasn't him, though. The problem lies at the feet of the decision-makers here. They kept him from succeeding here.

Although, all indications in ST showed that he had becamo successful, but that success was not utilized.

I have to say, for a team that hates all its young pitching, completely ignores the bullpen, and keeps employing managers that are in love with shitty veterans and who hate young players and who force them to ride the bench regardless of how good they were in AAA, the Rangers have somehow put together a really good season so far. I'm impressed.

Man, I have been on record here as to how I would have handled him. I mentioned him, Dunning and Otto several times all through the offseason and then into ST. It is no secret.

At this point it's gonna be whoever has the most players still breathing in the AL

Boy the schedule the rest of August is awful.
Aug 11 - 13 at SF (3)
Aug 14 - 16 LAA (3)
Aug 18 - 20 Milw (3)
Aug 21 - 22 at Ariz (2)
Aug 24 - 27 at Minn (4)
Aug 28 - 30 at NyM (3)

That will wear a team down

Which is why I’m not totally convinced on Eovaldi’s return.
I guess him saying he threw without pain leads to some optimism now as opposed to a few days ago
