I’ve been saying all year that the Angels aren’t a threat because of their pitching. Arte is just stubborn and doesn’t want to sell good players, but now he’s just making the hole even deeper.
I wouldn't want Trout because I don't see him ever playing a full season. I mentioned a long time ago that I have many friends from California and when it came time to resign him that they should have traded him for a boatload of players. His body type will never be able to stand up to a full season. They didn’t make bad moves. They just picked up “ok” players and added them to an “ok” team. Giolito is decent, but he’s nowhere near enough to be a massive difference maker. Same goes for Grichuk and Cron. The Angels had way too many major holes, especially with Trout out.
They have a total of 1 great pitcher and 1 great hitter and it’s the same guy. With Trout and Ward both out, they’re relying on guys like Renfroe, Moustakas, and Rengifo. Not exactly murderer’s row. And their starting pitchers have been pitching way over their heads all year long. Chase Silseth, Griffin Canning, and Patrick Sandoval aren’t scaring anyone. They’re just “ok” as well. And Tyler Anderson has been a massive bust.
It’s basically Ohtani and spare parts. Arte and Perry were staring at multiple teams in between themselves and the last WC spot. They should have known that their mini surge was due to playing awful teams and that their brutal August schedule would kill their playoff chances. But in typical Angels fashion they ignored reality and chose to go all-in.
They should trade Trout, cast off Rendon, and build their new offense around O’Hoppe and Moniak.
Their defense gave us that win. It was an ugly game but our pitching kept us in it.We were fortunate to play Oakland tonight. We really didn’t play that good of a game, but still it’s always nice to get the win.
I lived in the UP back in the 80s for 6 years, I can remember finding some snow down in deep pockets under pine trees in June while riding my dirt bike. Also seen the neighbor across the street mowing his grass in July and it started snowing. Even in the hottest of summer days you always took a jacket cause you never knew what might blow in...My son and his family live in Michigan and he put a picture on Facebook today with his kids playing outside in their jackets.
Smith was a little shaky there but finished the job. Would be very interested in re-signing him and Chapman when the time comes.
I understand but I ain’t BochyI know the “why”, but it’s sad that Bochy uses such dinosaur thinking.
Jankowski hits .261 vs. LHP while Grossman hits .281. But when you layer in OBP plus fielding plus baserunning, Jankowski is the far better choice even vs. LHP.
They tie their win total for 2022 with a victory tonight with 48 games leftRangers are +17 vs 2022
I was not happy about this from the very beginning and stated he should be starting every 5th game at AAA. How they could not see this was beyond me.Cole Ragans has started 3 games with the Royals.

He showed great improvement in spring training. The improvements he made over the offseason had both local and national media buzzing. Inexplicably, CY, Bochy, and company decided to let him rot in the bullpen. This team brings so few pitchers to that point of development that they simply cannot afford to mess it up once a pitcher does get to that point.
I think CY has decided that none of our own starting pitchers will be trusted. He would rather bring in veteran pitchers than give a young guy a chance. They will all be sent to the bullpen and maybe if they are lucky they will get a chance if there are enough injuries. Then they will be asked to overcome not being stretched out and perform head and shoulders above other, older pitchers if they are to secure a spot in the rotation.
They lucked out with Dunning making it through that unnecessary gauntlet. The Royals lucked out when Ragans failed to make it through an even tougher gauntlet while here.
Unfortunately they had someone we needed and Ragans was part of the cost. Sometimes you have to sacrifice someone you liked to get a ChapmanCole Ragans has started 3 games with the Royals.

My point is that Ragans should have been given the chance to prove himself as a starter here. If that had been the case, we would have traded someone else besides him for Chapman. He will most likely be a better starter than Dunning and we would have never considered trading Dunning for Chapman.Unfortunately they had someone we needed and Ragans was part of the cost. Lol the sarcasm runs deep here methinksI think the bigger concern is that CY, Bochy, Maddux, and the entire FO all hate young pitchers and actively try to destroy them, personally and professionally.
