I guess him saying he threw without pain leads to some optimism now as opposed to a few days ago
True but didn’t deGrom also say he was throwing and that led to optimism until that day we saw the looks on Bochy and Maddux’s faces and the next day they announced that he needed TJS

Boy the schedule the rest of August is awful.
Aug 11 - 13 at SF (3)
Aug 14 - 16 LAA (3)
Aug 18 - 20 Milw (3)
Aug 21 - 22 at Ariz (2)
Aug 24 - 27 at Minn (4)
Aug 28 - 30 at NyM (3)

That will wear a team down
It really isn’t as bad as you think.

San Francisco we won’t even have to travel for. That’s a small advantage. The giants aren’t as good as they used to be either.

the Angels have lost almost 10 games in a row now.

the brewers lineup is awful.

Arizona has been sputtering since the break like Miami has.

the Twinkies could be tough yes.

the Mets have mailed it in. They suck.

Okay how would you have handled Ragans? What moves would you not have done and what moves would you done instead?
Ok I will bite in general from a non professional standpoint
So I hear teams like ATL make their young minor league pitchers work on their FB and location f it before they ever move up. Makes sense to me especially in light of Leiter. Now the mechanics of how to do this I am extremely clueless. No pitching background
So one thought is farming these guys out to specialists in the offseason be it international ball or a place like Driveline

Texas is in a weird position for AAA ball as the parks are ultra hitter friendly.

Re Ragans of course it was preferable to have left him in AAA to start and get ready but our high leverage guys JHern and LeClerc went south and other guys just did not progress. For what reason I do not know and that to me is the million dollar question

Will say that the supposed jerk around between reliever vs SP is too simplistic and easy blame shift IMO. I am not convinced

We do know they for rid of pitching coaches in Frisco. Betting there is changes ahead CY has barely got his seat warm in that area

It’s more the traveling than the teams. Afternoon game against the Brewers and then travel to Arizona for 2 and then to Minn for 4 and then 3 in NY.

Yes but they were more iffy it seems with structural damage where they are adamant there is none with Nate.
But yeah things obviously can change and he could reinjure.
For now I think I can be optimistic but not huge given SP depth

I wonder if the Mets are going out of their way to lose games

Pretty much my view on the ML pitching too. Not being an expert actually know very little about developing pitching I won’t try to analyze

he was in the rotation last season when called up. made 9 starts.

they decided to go in a different direction with SP's in the offseason (signing established vets) and moved him to the BP, and the jury is out on whether that was a mistake or not.
As well as he was pitching in Spring Training he should have been sent down to AAA. to keep starting. As soon as they put him in the BP I was not in favor. I can understand putting him there at first but it took them a long time after many failed relief appearances before sending him down.

Hope so but it seems to be prevalent thru out baseball so my optimism is slightly tainted until I’ve seen him throw a number of games

well hopefully both parties end up with improved situations.

Hypercritical Issues
There are a lot of areas where we can have, and have had, hypercritical comments on here. Those comments are about a wide variety of things. Some are in regard to:

A general comment about the manager
A comment about the manager's overall coaching in a particular area
A general comment about the GM involving a particular decision or move
A comment about the GM's overall decision making
A singular at bat during the game
A singular inning or work for a pitcher during a game
A player's personal appearance
The use of a certain player
The way a player is built
The way a player played, batted or pitched in one in-person visit
Another member of this boards opinions
Another member of this board's comments
Another member of this board's criticisms
The upcoming schedule
The injury reports

There are also varying determinations or definitions as to what constitutes hypercritical behavior. Some seem to think any criticism that they don't agree with is hypercritical. In other words, their definition of hypercritical to them, is criticism that is different than their own. Sometimes what is perceived as a hypercritical comment is simply a comment that exhibits a normal level of criticism, but is perceived by those being hypersensitive, as being hypercritical.

If you ever get fed up with hypercritical comments there is always the "ignore" feature. I have recently found out that that works to drown out hypercritical comments of a personal nature.

Just try to have fun and move on is the best we can do.

It all comes down to how well we perform. Look at what a crapfest that game was last night.
Why do you keep saying the Giants aren’t as good as they used to be? They are doing pretty good.

I agree he should been sent down to AAA but their failures in putting together a bullpen forced them to make questionable decisions that forced them to put him and Dunning in the pen

Very true about their failures in addressing our BP.

the Giants are the closest thing to a dynasty the game has had since the 90's Yankees I think was the point. They aren't that anymore, they're just pretty good.

Someone should really call attention to that, perhaps through a name or avatar.

There are a lot of inter-related things wrong with the pitching staff and the construction thereof.
