Nido is will get the majority of the workload now...and I hope it pans out.

I know he shouldn't be rushed...but sometimes there's no other choice.

All good. That's the right approach.
I wasn't implying he be called up now.
Just putting it out there that he's gonna be ready soon...and his inevitable promotion to the bigs is not too far away.

Final:
Mariners 2 - Mets 1

Mets hitters gave Max the deGrom treatment...aka: no run support.
Drew Smith took the loss.
Ex-Mets pitcher Paul Sewald got the win in relief.

Up Next:
RHP Chris Bassitt (4-2) will start the middle game of the series for the Mets on Saturday.
He'll face Mariners RHP George Kirby (0-0), who is from nearby suburban Rye, NY.

Ugh, wasted opportunity there with Marte at 3rd with one out. Lindor with a good at bat but can't put the ball in play followed by Pete with a lady throw away at bat. Need to get a run there.

Mets won it 5-4.
Bassitt went 5.2 and only allowed 1 run.
They had a 4-1 lead in the 6th but Lugo & Shreve had unusual bumpy outings.
Patty "magic" Maz came through by crushing a solo blast in the 7th to get the lead back after Seattle tied it up.

Adam Ottavino pitched a scoreless inning in the 8th and got the win.
Edwin "sugar" Diaz went 1-2-3 striking out all 3 Mariners he faced in the 9th for the save against his former team.

The Wrap & Recap....

The Box....

The Vids....

Up Next....
Mets RHP Carlos Carrasco (3-1, 3.19) will start the rubber game for NY.
He is 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA in three starts at home this year.
He's also 5-3 with a 3.67 ERA lifetime vs. the Mariners, though he hasn't started against them since May 2019.
Reigning AL Cy Young Award winner LHP Robbie Ray (3-3, 4.22 ERA) gets the call on Sunday afternoon when Seattle wraps up its first visit to Citi Field for the finale of the three-game series. He is 3-1 with a 2.60 ERA in six career starts against the Mets.

LATEST NEWS

May 15: RHP Tylor Megill placed on 15-day injured list

Coming off his worst start of the season, in which he allowed eight runs over 1 1/3 innings in Washington, Megill landed on the IL due to right biceps inflammation. The right-hander planned to undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of his injury.
With Megill absent, David Peterson is the obvious candidate to step into the rotation. In the short-term, the Mets selected reliever Colin Holderman from Triple-A Syracuse and transferred Trevor May to the 60-day IL to clear roster space. It’s a significant loss for the Mets, considering Megill was enjoying a breakout season with a 4-1 record and 2.43 ERA in six starts prior to his loss to the Nationals.

Mets scored in the 1st on a Lindor solo HR.
Mariners tied it up in the 3rd.
Cookie is crumbling here in the 4th...single, single, walk....
Bases loaded no outs.

Edit:
2 run single...then a sac fly run... pop up....ground out.

4-1 Seattle....mid 4th.

LGM!

Wow...Mets made it interesting in the 9th, putting up 2 runs.
Mariners IBB'd Lindor with 2 outs and 1st base open to load the bases for Pete.
He swung and missed a 3-2 pitch low and away to end it.
It would've walked in the tying run if he didn't swing.
Mets drop the finale 8-7.

It was gonna happen eventually that they'd lose a series. They're now 9-1-1 in their 11 series played.
Time to start another series win streak tomorrow.

Sigh, had to lose a series eventually but that's one we should have locked up.
