I like American Indian, but redskins don't offend me at all and I am 1/4 Cherokee ....Savages, Scalpers, Injuns are offensive words but even so, I believe every American has the right to think and say what they please....
A little saying we all heard when we were kids, and that was many moons ago for me, is "sticks and stones will break your bones but names will never hurt you"....

According to whose rules? How many years do we go back? 50, 200, 525 or 10,000? Native American Indians weren't indigenous to North America, they migrated here from Asia. So should we call them Asian Americans instead???

IMO people should be called what the want to be called. Who am I to decide what to call you? But it bothers me in general when you have people running around telling other people what should offend them.

I like it Asian American Ingins or AAIs for short.
Or Asian American Reds (AAR).
Those are likely some kind of bird? Now the autoban society and every bird watching club will have an issue.

Probably to avoid confusion because when people hear the word "Redskin" they think of a pro football player from our nation's capitol and not a native American.

My son's school had to change their school name from Redskins because of a state law passed. Didn't change name because Native Americans complained about it or there was this huge outcry from Indians to have the name changed, a couple of non native americans in the legislature decided the name was offensive and drafted a bill banning its use.

I grew up right outside the Muckleshoot reservation. I don't think those Natives give a shit about the team name because, well, they have lives. But when people act like the term Redskin is a source of pride or term of endearment, I have to laugh. Go to your nearest Rez, call some guys Redskin and see if you don't get some teeth knocked out.

Yea, the think about it was, the name and image used by the school was never intended nor was it ever used as a sign of disrespect or shown in a negative way. But it doesn't matter to the thought police.

This is an okay source but people really don't know the origin of the word or the facts. It's quite sad how many social justice warriors are so quick to jump on the wagon and create a victim without thorough research. I for one love history and was in complete shock when I recognized the widespread blissful ignorance on the topic.
