Mariners 2023 - 2024 offseason thread

They will miss on Ohtani and Bellinger. Then there isn’t any other guys that would really excite anyone offensively. Possibly go after some pitching then allows for them to trade a Miller or a Gilbert to get that controllable bat. Realistically again go into the offseason needed a 2B and COF…plus I’d say an upgrade at 1B. I think they want Rojas at first.

Ideally sign Snell and Bellinger then make a blockbuster for a 2B/3B

What makes you think they want Rojas at first? Not trying to be contradictory, but I just don't see his bat playing at first and he's never played first in his career. That would completely be a Mariner thing to do putting a utility infielder at first though.

I think you might be right in the idea that we should go for starting pitching in free agency and trade some of our controllable young pitchers for a comparable 2B/3B. I don't know if I'd want to move Gilbert or Kirby though. I really think their ceilings are a bit higher than they've pitched so far.

Honestly at this point I'd happily unload what prospects we have in our system to add impact hitters if the Mariners aren't willing to purchase them in free agency.

I meant Rojas at third. I don’t proof read before I click post. IMO Jerry’s ideal scenario is that Rojas is the 3B with Geno at DH with Bliss at 2B. Which on paper isn’t bad but it is banking on a guy who has proven to be a platoon player, a guy who is a MLB hitter for about 40 games a year and a prospect.

I’m not advocating trading Gilbert or Kirby but if they aren’t going to spend then it is what they have to do. I don’t think Woo has the value, Miller IMO would be at the deadline. But he is going to have an innings limit still next year so I can’t imagine that he alone would net the type of bat they need. Miller with some secondary prospects ok, but IMO it would be Miller and at least 1 if not 2 other top guys to get an impact player. Kirby and Gilbert are proven guys who in the old school stuff Gilbert is the ace, in the new school Kirby is the ace.

100% agree. But I more we should pray that the Mariners can catch a break like all of the other teams not names the Astros or Phillies have had multiple young players come up and become stars. The Mariners have Julio and that is basically it. Gilbert and Kirby have come up and been amazing but no one is calling for them to be Cy Young and same with Miller and Woo. If the M’s are to replicate the success of say the Orioles or Braves with the rebuild then Ford or Young need to be serious contributors. Otherwise it is free agency cause forgive me if I don’t believe at all that Bliss, Canzone or Rojas are going to be anything other that Toro. Toro had plenty of stretches where people who were ok with the Graveman trade had the I told you so argument.
