Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), to be released on February 7, 2020, is now slated to be the 8th film of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), following Shazam (2019).
(Wonder Woman 2 was originally supposed to be released in 2019 as the 8th DCEU film, but then Warner Bros. decided to delay it to 2020.)
The long title is a reference to Birdman or (the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014), the Best Picture Oscar-winning film starring Michael Keaton, after he was Batman in the 1990s Tim Burton films and before he was Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). Birdman also starred Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man) and Edward Norton (Hulk in The Incredible Hulk).
The full title of the film was just announced yesterday by lead Margot Robbie via an Instagram post. THR then confirmed that was not just the star having some fun, but would be the official title:
