Yeah, not to mention Ball, Hart, Kuz and Caruso. Given how some of these guys have developed, they could have been a real solid team by now. They'd likely need to make a move or 2 to be contenders...but they'd have a real solid young team.

Stop it.

If by solid, you mean 40-45 wins, then sure.

Just no upside there.

And all those players are making enough money now that it would have been really hard to add a star.

There is no chance at contention unless those players you are adding are elite.

...and the Knicks best player Randle, and likely Garland, etc.

Do you really think you take garland when you already had ball?

I’d guess you take hunter or culver

Randle and Ingram both made the all-star team and Clarkson was 6MOY

Then you got Kuz and Caruso who are both solid players. They would have also pretty much found a way to get solid vet presence ie. Rondo, Melo, Gasol, Dwight etc. Not forgetting the 4th pick in the draft a few years ago.

50 wins is easily doable. And probably a good run in the playoffs

I don’t think that team wins 50 games. They’re looking at the play in.

Lets hypothetically say:

Dwight
Randle
Melo
Ingram
Ball

with Clarkson, Caruso, Kuz. Hart and Nance coming off the bench

I don't see why they wouldn't be able to potentially win 50

Not in the West.

And you probably aren’t getting those vet min guys, because they are signing with real contenders.

That is a 6-8 seed all day.

Utah is the 5th seed this year and they have 49 wins. Not exactly a stretch from what I suggested.

Yeah it’s hard to say cause they’d have some other draft picks on this roster, probably have that kid in Houston now right now, segun at c

It’s an interesting team

But no way it’s better than anyone until maybe like Denver?

Before we even assess the play on the court and the lack of a guy who can be a Batman and get buckets in the 4th quarter, let’s remember we are talking about one of the most impatient franchises in sports. There’s no way they stand pat on getting this far with that group. You essentially need a Larry Brown to coach that group. A guy who can create something where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Well, I do think that is a bit of a stretch honestly.

Even then, Utah is not a contender. And that is the absolute ceiling.

So Laker fans really need to stop talking about “what they gave up”.

You all won a championship. Those players who made that “young nucleus” have accomplished exactly nothing in the NBA. They weren’t going to go anywhere in LA either.

Nobody is saying that group is going to be a contender. There's a difference between being 'solid' and contending for a title.

For some reason you seem to think I'm saying they're winning championships.

Ive been high man on Lonzo around here, and even i think this team comes up a bit short.

But who knows, maybe they make a trade for someone else.

hunter went 4th,

I'm really curious if the Lakers would've taken a similar offer to what NO did.
Hunter did go 4th, but the Lakers were rumored to be interested in Garland before the trade became official.

Not sure how you missed that since you quoted it. :noidea:
