Word on CBS is that Michael Jordan may be looking to shed salary by absorbing Westbrook's expiring contract, due to the fact that Charlotte needs to pay Miles Bridges.

Gordon Hayward has two years left on his deal. Such a trade would likely send Hayward and a filler (Oubre or Plumlee) to the Lakers for Westbrook.

Thoughts?

I do that deal just to avoid the cut/stretch option Lakers and you can always move Hayward later.

LA doesn’t have many choices at this point. Take it or leave but we know how the RW worked out. Take whatever you can get
Run it back next season and then have cap space after next season.

I don't think Westbrook goes anywhere without Lakers also sending picks. Even expiring contract only raises it a bit.

It would be a good trade for the lakers though. Gordon is a solid player and not one dimensional. Fit decently around Bron and AD
He’s a guy that I think would be worth parting with Tobias Harris for. Both guys fit better with the other group.

He is a far, far better fit for Lebron than Westbrook could ever be. But taking on that injury history is kind of scary. In the last 2 years, he has played in 44 and 49 games (which is actually more than AD has played).

His salary is $30 million compared to $47 million for Westbrook.

It would be tempting as hell because a healthy Lebron, AD and Hayward with the right role players could contend for a title. But between the 3 of them you could end up with about $115 million sitting on the bench in street clothes for over half the season.

I'd say yes in a heartbeat if he didn't have that injury history. Hell, if AD didn't have HIS injury history, I'd do it. But the idea of seeing the 2 of them in street clothes with Lebron joining them for a few games here and there scares the hell out of me.

But next year is kind of a bust already, right? Still plenty of cap space the year after with Westbrook and LeBron gone. And Hayward will be an expiring if you dont want to keep him both years.

You took a risk with Westbrook, it didn't work. This trade would also be a risk. But that's how it works, rarely do moves have no downside possibilities

How does that not improve the Lakers?
GH is injury prone and he has 2 years left on his deal. They want to have more cap space after next season.

Doesn't move the needle for the Lakers. Keep RW and run it back and see if they can gel, stay healthy, etc.....if not, let RW walk after next season and we have cap space.

True.

I think that if I'm the Lakers, I'm doing it and crossing my fingers. lol

I'm just not confident that MJ won't come to his senses. I'm also not sure this is anything more than speculation.

It would definitely be a risk, but at least it's a risk with a guy who would actually fit with Lebron.
