And it isn't wasting a season either.

The Lakers were 11-10 with James, AD and RW. If they had played 36-38 games they would have made the playin. Would have won more games than they did and more time to build chemistry together.

Stop it.

Making the play-in is a wasted season with LeBron and AD. Expectations should be much higher.

They don’t need more time to build chemistry. Westbrook does not fit.

Westbrook is not just an expiring deal though. He has a track record of destroying team chemistry. If you are trading for him or better be to be paying him to stay home.

Yeah, I agree. I don’t think it is the right trade for Charlotte.

Just answering why they might do a deal like it.

Fuck GH and Oubre or Plumlee but I guess I'd do it for GH and Rozier. Rozier is a dog and he'd be great for us so even if GH is hurt we have Rozier.

But straight up, not including a 1st. They get RW's expiring deal.

It's a strange, purple-and-gold colored paradise where L.A. can off-load an albatross like RW for not one but two very good players in return.

GH is injury prone and MJ wants to unload salary and slightly longer term contracts because he gotta pay his younger players and he cheap as fuck.

Don't hate.

Anything's possible, I guess... so enjoy your fantasy.

No way that happens without the Lakers giving up at least one future 1st rounder, though.

If they do decide to run it back and save the cap space for the following season, I'm good with it.

But I prefer taking a shot at something that could make you a contender, even if it ultimately fails. If they can upgrade the bench as well, this could do that.
They gottra try and keep Monk. And bring back Melo for the bench. Give them 1 year deals.

Like I said in the season thread when Marc Stein had the story a couple of days ago, its a plausible deal that works for both side IF Charlotte things they hit their ceiling and want to use Westbrook's expiring to clear a large chunk of space to build around Ball and Bridges. It makes zero sense basketball wise for next season because Westbrook + Ball is just as bad as Westbrook + Lakers, but if you're gonna be a 9 seed anyway, it's something worth considering. Especially if you can convince the Lakers to toss in at least one of the 1st rounders they have available to trade (27 or 29)

As for the Lakers, any deal where you can get 2 to 3 players back for Westbrook is a win. He's an atrocious fit. Even with Hayward being injury prone, it'd still be an upgrade. And if by some miracle Hayward can stay healthy, him and Rozier with Bron and AD is a pretty solid group.
If I'm Pelinka and knowing I am dealing with MJ.....I am resisting including any picks.

How are they going to keep Monk? They don’t have Bird rights and he had a nice show me year and he’s still a young player. He can get a multi year deal from somebody in the range of 3 years and 36-45 million.

I would think that the Lakers having to throw in at least 1 first round pick would be assumed.

I don't know but maybe convince him to come back on a 1 year deal for 5-6 mill.

Not in @DJ fantasy land:

But why would he do that? He didn’t sign on to chase a ring. He’s a shooter that would benefit from open looks he gets around LeBron and AD. He accomplished his goal of rewriting his persona in the league to get paid. Why would he sacrifice another year? Only way that happens is if he has some hand shake deal where after his MLE contract with Lakers that he is getting an overpay multi year deal from the Lakers.

I'm sure they will try...but he likely has earned himself a significant raise. He would likely have to be willing to give the Lakers a discount.

The MLE for us is 8.4 mill. That's a raise.

Beggars can't be choosers and the Lakers will be beggars. This, assuming it's based on something real, would be a better offer than anything they can reasonably expect to get and it's better than other deal I've seen mentioned.

Not when he can make 15 million per year somewhere else
Not many teams have cash available and if he does.....it'll be a lottery team. He still young enough to get a huge deal later in his career.

Wall and Wood if Houston doesn't want a 1st.
