The thing I'm most excited about is how much better the defense has played the last 2 weeks. Macdonald looks like a genius, right now, getting rid of Baker and Dodson. I realize that you could counter that he was the one that brought them in but I think there are a LOT of coaches that would be unwilling to pivot off vets like that. Trading for Jones and then giving a rookie the starting Mike spot is a big balls move.

And I think they also played pretty well vs Rams before the bye, which I believe was Jones' 2nd game with the team. But yeah, you gotta give credit to the FO/Mac for having the stones to cut bait on 2 guys they just brought in and making that move mid-season. If that goes south, they look like complete schmucks.
Also, Jobe has been just amazing so far. Is there a secondary playing better than this group right now?

Having some guys up front who can put heat on the passer in a base 4-man rush sure helps, eh? If Leonard Williams & co get inside pressure like that on a QB that isn't historically quick/mobile, you might be looking at a 7 sack type day for the defense. Or they are having to get rid of the ball way before they are ready, which creates some opportunity the back end guys to make some plays. Pressure is key.

Hopefully we get Nwosu back as well which should help bolster the defense.

Has he even been pulled off IR yet to begin the 21 day clock?? Sorta seems like we just aren't going to see him again this season.

I'm not familiar with the 21 day clock you references? He's completed his mandatory 4 week missed time and could return. Macdonald seemed to make it sound like it was unlikely for this week though.

That's the other guy I was thinking could be cut and we'd have to eat dead cap, Nwosu.

I mean that said, let's hope he recovers before the season is over and gets healthy. With Jones almost assuredly being cut, it'd be nice to have Nwosu around for 2025 and later this season.

At the same time, I wouldn't mind cutting Nwosu and just taking the lumps in 2025... Hall broke out, we'll need another EDGE but there are some decent prospects in this draft class at the EDGE position, as well as DT. Weak as hell QB, ILB/LB, S, and OT class.

I thought he was set to return after the bye week... Maybe that's when his 21 day starts?

Remember when Darrell Taylor had that huge opening day for the Bear this season? 8 tackles, 7 solo, 2 sacks and half a stuff.

Since then? 5 solo tackles, 0 sacks, 0 stuffs. In 9 games.

As I understand it, players are eligible to come off of in-season IR after 4 weeks. Once you take them off IR, they can practice for 21 days w/o counting against your 53 man active roster. At the end of that 21 days, you either have to use a roster spot on them or they go on season-ending IR.

Speaking of players doing well/poorly for other teams... That Giant GM has to be under fire... Barkley having a record season and L. Williams playing out of his mind for the Hawks... Not a good look for that GM... That team has given up on the org.

I believe that's how it worked for Abe Lucas...

Oh ok. I see what you are talking about. Not sure that they have taken Nwosu off of IR yet. I believe they were planning to take him off IR this week. They then have 21 days to play him or he's done for the year.

According to this he may come off IR this week as well as Artie Burns and Stone Forsythe.

Yeah, and maybe he goes straight from IR to the 53 man roster (meaning they think he can play), but that doesn't seem to be how it usually goes. Considering this is Nwosu's 2nd time on IR this season (and missed 9 games last year), I suspect they are not about to rush him back.

I don't think he was placed on IR the 1st time. I don't think you can go on IR twice in a season. But he did miss time to start the season. And I doubt they will bring him back unless completely healthy. Even if he comes off IR this week, I suspect he's at least a week or two away.

Not sure... maybe it was PUP. Either way, this is a guy who probably won't be rushed along.

Yeah, I mean there is a bit of a strategy here. You don't want that 21 day clock to start too early and risk losing them for the season, so the idea should be they are fairly close once off IR.

Yeah. They won't rush him back. Even if he comes back around Week 16 that could be a nice jolt in the arm for the defense.

I want to point out that the 50 yarder that iced the game was a much more difficult kick than it seems. That end of the field is a kicker killer and most of the missed kicks are at that end and its been that way since they built this stadium. Something about the way the wind blows in around the hawks nest is very deceiving.

There is a reason why Mac gave him a game ball.

From what I read, you can go on IR twice in one season. The current rules state that you can only bring back 8 players from the IR at the moment, and no player can return twice in one season (so a 3rd IR designation would mean you're out), but a team only gets a limit of 8 and a the same person coming back counts against that. And once on IR you have to sit out 4 weeks. So putting someone on IR twice is a big deal, because if you expect them to come back, you're eating up other IR designations. Obviously superstars would be worth that.

Now that said, I don't know if Nwosu was a PUP or IR at the start of the season. PUP carries some different rules (as explained in the link I posted).
