Getting rid of players is so much less important than adding players.
Fans do this little dance in every league.
There's no one to spend Couts' money on and you won't find a 1C for 8 million.
Puck Pedia has the Flyers projected to have 23M in cap space this summer. https://puckpedia.com/team/philadelphia-flyers
Looks like that basically takes today's roster (Gaucher, Andrae, Kolosov, Ellis included) and any retentions / buyout penalties they have.
York, Foerster, and Cates probably the unsigned guys they want to retain. York might be expensive, but I don't expect Foerster or Cates to be. All 3 are RFAs. Plus you might have Risto's 5.1 coming off the books in a trade.
All that to say, the Flyers are probably going to be in a position to spend if they want to. Question is if there's anyone out there you want to out bid for.
Wonder what this guy got paid for his articleFlyers going to go ‘big game hunting’ for center
The Philadelphia Flyers have a desperate position of need and according to reports, they’re going to make a big splash.www.broadstreethockey.com
Im not sure but it would be nice to actually have a number one or two center on the team.Wonder what this guy got paid for his article
Totally agree on the point - it is a must.Im not sure but it would be nice to actually have a number one or two center on the team.
My plan is we go on a run this year and win a cup with the players we have left and go from there.Totally agree on the point - it is a must.
Like others have said on this board, the FO needs to set a date span to target the Cup. Then through player development and free agency, here’s what needs to happen when and be sure to have the money to do it.
I guess with dumping Farabee and Frost, there appears to be moves supporting a plan. But they can’t make “fan favorite” deals (Coots) that just throw money to keep a player around that people like.
Someone mention MacKinnon - ok, if he’s a UFA in the timeframe the team is ready to compete, be sure there’s money available to get him.
Nothing all that ground breaking in this post - just would like to see a hockey writer go into detail on a potential scenario to get the Flyers Cup competitive in “X” years.
Two more years before Ryan Ellis money goes away.Totally agree on the point - it is a must.

All it takes is just one of those names to balk at re-signing and that team is going to want a decent amount of draft picks in compensation for giving up a 1C.To me, this summer isn't the time to spend. Marco Rossi (RFA) and Wyatt Johnson (RFA) are guys you could try to poach from Minnesota/Dallas. But outside of those guys most C or D options are older. To poach them you either have to offer more than Minnesota/Dallas can afford, or more than they're willing to pay them. Looking at the projections for next year, both probably have enough to re-sign them if they want to. So you have to overpay to either get the contract looking unsavory for them or the offer sheet return to be worth it.
To get the offer sheet return to be worth it, I think you'd probably have to go to 9.1M (two 1sts, one 2nd, one 3rd). That's a big risk for one of those guys. Rossi is too small IMO to take that risk on. Wyatt Johnson maybe you look at it.
Next summer has some more interesting names though. McDavid (UFA), Eichel (UFA), Necas (UFA), Bedard (RFA), Cooley (RFA), Fantilli (RFA). Now, a lot of those guys will probably sign extensions this summer, they just can't yet. And a lot of those guys are in the "spend whatever it takes to keep them" category. But, those are obviously some big options. If a couple of them slip through to summer of 2026, those are guys worth bidding on. Plus if you do make 7 picks in the first two rounds this summer, the prospect pool is going to be well stocked. You can feel a little better about gutting your future picks with a big offer sheet.
I like this post. Your side gig can be writing articles. This is better than the last one posted. To me, this summer isn't the time to spend. Our winning streak starts tonight!!Well, a three-game losing streak, bottom dwellers, and a basic team-wide hold on sending-out or bringing-in players on a pause, the Flyers look like they are officially in a tank/rebuild mode. I hate it that Pissburgh is now ahead of us. Just hate that. Suddenly, the state of the Flyers is in a frustratingly no-man's land.
Need about 22 wins in last 28 games to make playoffs. So three, seven game win streaks with 3 losses in between them. Our winning streak starts tonight!!
