Idk what happened to this team in the last two games. I've been sick, sleeping a lot and didn't watch them. Seems like the 4-2 win over NJ was our last gasp and now it's pretty much over.

I hate to say it, but there is really nothing left to play for this season. There are too many teams between us and a playoff spot, plus the schedule is just too difficult from here on out.
Yea me too Maverick. Could't shake a cold and sore throat I have had for nearly two months. Get well man. Snooze away!

For those wanting a full-on tank job, I think finishing with the 2nd or 3rd worst record in the Nhl is still very possible, assuming we have a fire sale. No matter how poor the results are, I don't believe we're catching San Jose for the worst record. They are 16 points behind us and have played an extra game.

As for this trade with Calgary, we dumped some salary and two prospects that we clearly have given up on. Farabee's $5 million comes off the books for the next 3 seasons and Frost (at $2.1 million now) probably wanted a nice raise in his next deal, despite being a RFA.

Another 2nd round pick in the next draft is acquired. Despite shedding the salary, that was probably the piece we were after. Kuzmenko is likely just a throw-in to keep the money close. He will just walk after this season. Idk much about Pelletier, but he's a younger winger (23) that I'm assuming will be much cheaper coming off his entry level deal. He will be an inexpensive RFA this summer.

Also, for me, this trade pretty much signals the end of playing to win games this season.

I had originally stated that we needed to win 2 of the last 3 games to stay in contention. Well, it started out nicely and ended with two pathetic losses. Not good enough. The Islanders are absolutely rolling and NJ desperately wanted revenge. Tough games, but to get shut out back to back is embarrassing.

Yep, agreed. With Poehling out for a bit here too they're threadbare at center. Seems like Risto will probably go in a 'trade him at peak value' move and then the D will start to get real thin too. Can bring Andrae back up to form two decent pairs with Sanheim/York and Andrae/Seeler, but even I think that d-group will be too small. Gunna need to play 3 forwards on the PK just to get someone over 6ft to help clear the crease.

Laughton I think will be a coin flip, same as last year. If someone meets the high bar they're setting he'll go. If not, we'll play this game again next year.

Curious if they do anything beyond that. In general, they seem to like the rest of the group. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to flip Kuzmenko. From what I've read, him and Torts won't jive at all.
