Apparently has some real offensive talent but 5-8, 157 lbs. 34 years old sone he may add some weight. Since Brink is 5-8 and 169, it may be time to package Brink and one of the late 1st rounder for a center. I really like the way Brink plays and he plays above his size, but it will be tough having 2 wings at that size. Brink and a 1st for Rossi, but he isn't much bigger at 5-9, 182. I forget when it was but I thinks it was the Rangers who were nicknamed the "Smurfs" at one point. Imagine a line of Shabanov (5-8, 157) - Rossi (5-9, 182) and Michkov (5-10, 172). May call them the Legion of Vroom? Mighty Mites?

Better be the “Rush Squad” because they aren’t grinding in front of the net or anywhere else in the O-zone

This going down the rabbit hole of Smirfdom is just simply nuts.

No risk to this one though. Article lays it out pretty well.

If it works, then great. If it spectacularly implodes, and he isn’t good enough to even be the 13th forward and he is begging to get back to the low physicality of the KHL, at least Briere didn’t leave a stone unturned in trying to find a solution.

It'll be a 1 year deal at like 1 mil based on his age. If he sucks, dump him in the AHL. If he's pretty good, but Brink is better, don't re-sign him next summer. If he's really good, you have the inside track on re-signing a difference maker to a longer term and can trade someone like Brink.

All for signings like this. 5'2 guy with amazing speed/skills, go for it. 6'8 lacrosse player that's never skated before in his life, go for it. Dart throws that cost you next to nothing.

Sounds like the Flyers are pretty lukewarm on adding Rossi based on reports. This is probably their chosen alternative. Rossi you'd be committing assets and long term cap space for a mighty might. Shabanov is risk free. Then, presumably, use the assets/cap space on bigger guys.

Putting it this way (low risk) why not ?

What's interesting is that I'm reading a lot of reports about Ryabkin that his attitude stinks and he's not built for the NHL.

Surrounding Michkov with other Russians that have chips on their shoulders might not be a terrible idea.
In the right environment, maybe these guys find another gear.
Worst case scenario, you're not breaking the bank for these players, so they should be low risk/high reward types, which we kind of need right now.

Yep, agreed. Ryabkin was talked about as a top 10 pick before the season. Things came off the rails at his team in Russia, moved to the USHL, tagged with attitude problems. Now he's probably a 2nd round pick or even later. I'd take him with one of 4 2nd rounders all day.

You're never going to win this "save the coaches" crusade. Any book or study on leadership/motivation will say calling people out in a public setting will at best get a short term burst of increased output. Over a long period, people check out under those conditions. Praise in public, correct in private.

Would've been fine to do if they had just lost game 6 and he was trying to get a little more juice out of them for game 7, even it's to spite the coach. If it works, all is forgiven because they win and advance. Doing it when they won't play another game for 3 months has no benefit. It's just being a whiny bitch and trying to shirk responsibility for losing 6 conference finals in a row (across 3 different teams).
Im not saying now nor have ever said im trying to "save the coaches". I am now saying as i have always been saying its never the coaches fault the team has lost. The team loses based on what happens on the ice not behind the bench.

So to be clear to you once again. Its never the coaches fault the team loses. Play better if you dont want to get called out Hockey 101.

Even agree with that. Could maybe even get away with singling out a guy or two if you do it before the series ends because you get the “I’m pissed at you” bounce.

Doing it at the end of the series and singling one dude out signed his walking papers. Especially a top 3-5 goalie in the league that’s signed at 8.25 for 4 more years. Just a stupid thing to do, and then double down on.
If you followed the Oilers series you would know he called out his players earlier and they didnt respond.

Funny the series before he called out his players and they won the series and he was being praised for his coaching style. How the tide had turned 5 games later.

I agree with this to package Brink. I love his style of play and he has value in a trade.

We also have Barkey coming up now and is ready to make the jump who is the exact carbon copy of Brink who could take that spot easily.

That's because timing is everything. If the players have a chance to respond it can be an effective lever for a coach to pull. If they're not going to play again for 3 months, it's stupid.

I think Ryabkin is going to go higher than we think in the draft as he is very talented. We may have to use one of our 1st rounders on him if we want him on our team.

We have extended the contracts of RFAS Noah Cates ,Tyson Foerster and Helge Grans. We did not extend Cam York.

Would he be a piece in a trade for someone like Necas or Rossi even though (i dont want to sign him) we really need a center?

Maybe even a McTavish from Anaheim.

I need a job that pays millions and have no responsibility for the outcome of my work.

Same. Also don’t ever want to see another post saying the flyers suck because the captain isn’t a real leader. G and Coots vindicated, leadership apparently has nothing to do with success.
