And to add on Geno: I still think he's a capable player. Yesterday just wasn't a good game for him for whatever reason. He isn't the type of guy who will put the team on his back, but it's also not time to throw him back on the scrap heap and go with someone unproven just to see what will happen. Geno is good enough that on most days, we will come out ok if the defense holds up like they have the last couple games, and the team continues to surround Geno with a considerable amount of offensive talent.

It wasn't all on him, but it was mostly him. I do agree the conditions were difficult with blocking and how aggressive Cincy's rush was, but Geno can't react like he's Russell Wilson in his prime. It's just not his game. He needs to step up vs spin out, and get rid of the ball if it's not there.

Without see the All-22s its hard to know what Geno could or could not do.

Watching some highlights and it does seem that the pocket really was collapsing too quickly for Geno at time.

Looking at the 3rd and long with 9:54 left, for instance, and Geno has someone in his stepping lane before anyone is even close to open..

1697465988960.png

Maybe he could get it to JSN up top but that would be a super risky throw especially as it would be across his body.

Watching the last 2 possessions and I think Geno was clearly responsible for the first sack. But the OL completely fell apart. I also think that Waldron simply failed to adjust to the pressure. On the 2nd to last play, the Bengals brought 6 rushers. They were all on the line and either the play didn't allow it or Geno didn't think to audible to K9 releasing out to the right as he would have been wide open.

The last play was completely on Bradford who olé'd his assignment.

Our inability to run anything other than bubble screens continues to kill us.

I've agreed blocking was an issue, and Cincy also was effective with their rush. Sort of a package deal I guess.

But I have an issue with some decisions that Geno makes/made in those situations. He needs to stop spinning out of the back of the pocket. He also just cannot take a sack on 4th & goal or 4th & whatever in the red zone. Chucking it up for grabs is better than just going down. The INT on the pass to JSN was a poor decision. He is a rookie and was double covered. If you throw that, it has to be high and wide. Geno was not the sole reason we lost, but it definitely was not a good game for him. Salk is more or less saying exactly how I look at this morning on 710.

I agree that Geno wasn't good. But it was almost ENTIRELY in the red zone. So the question becomes, is the problem Geno or how we execute our RZ offense. I'm willing to believe it is either or both.

I'm done with DK... We need to bench him or get rid of him... Gives up on that INT... Pouts when he's not getting the ball... Gives up on a few blocks... Loses his cool, too much... He costs us more than he helps us at this point... He gets to that point and then Geno tries to start forcing it to him when he's not open... Like I said... I'd rather we move on from him...

In the redzone, our OL was abysmal... On our runs, we had 1yd run, -1 yd run, the OL was not winning their one on ones nor moving the defenders off the ball... They were just getting beat badly... Geno didn't have a good game but for fans to be putting most of the blame on him is sad... Our OL was absolutely dreadful yesterday via the pass... I would've liked to see a few QB runs schemed in there when they were pinning their ears back rushing the passer w/ just 4 DL... This reminded me of the old Seahawks... Put pressure with just 4 and then you have 7 covering, which makes it very difficult for a QB to find an open receiver...

Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts were constantly under pressure yesterday and their productivity was affected because of that... Your OL has to win in the RZ and our patch work OL did just the opposite...

Like someone mentioned, it's like some of you are acting like we're a SB team... What are your expectations? On the road against a very good Bengals team, these games happen...

And a loss after a Bye? Please stop with that... What are the excuses for all the home losses we've had over the past few seasons?

I'm surprised no one is talking about how great of a game Jamal Adams had... He was all over the field making plays...

If anything... Our defense is showing great improvement each week and we have some serious playmakers... Finally! Witherspoon is the real deal...

Yeah, I think Geno was solid between the 20s yesterday. We had massive red zone problems, as you point out. I don't know what the reason for it is, but it cost us the game. One overall observation I have so far this season for our offense is we don't seem to be interested in the slightest at running those jet sweeps that the Rams killed us with over the years. That's not really a red zone type play, but it's just something that dawned on me during the game. I suspect it's largely about personnel, but why can't that be a play that DK can run? Ideally it would be Eskridge, but he's hurt all the time and now suspended.

Another observation not connected directly to rz offense: JSN needs to knock off the pouty demeanor. He's a rookie WR3, not a vet #1. I don't know if that's just how he normally looks or what, but it seems most of the time the camera is on him he has some sad puppy dog look.

Yep, Jamal played well AND <I think> didn't get hurt!! Him + Spoon on the field the rest of the way is going to be fun to watch. Definitely was excited about the play of the defense for 3 quarters of that game... just a bit overshadowed by how impotent our O was in the red zone.

And can someone teach Kenneth Walker the blocking rules??

How many times did the take a sack in the red one? 3 or 4? After the first one you have to wake the fuck up and accept the fact you have to get the ball out quick. He didnt do it, instead he continued to hesitate

You can't get the ball out of quick if there is no one to throw the ball to.

If its 4th and goal with 30 seconds, throw the fucking ball. theres zero excuse for taking a sack.

He should have thrown the ball. But Anthony Bradford got completely blown by.

Not making excuses for Geno. He had his worst game as a Seahawk. Horrible decision making all day long. Having said that, no way is Pete benching him so it's all of us yelling at the sky for no reason. Live with it or not, whatever. We all know Geno was never the long term answer to anything. But neither is Drew Lock. We are stuck here unless Jon Schneider can pull off some mega deal after the season that nets us a top 2-3 pick. I have a thought on that one but it's pretty far out and I'm not sure if y'alls sensitive ears can handle it.
The defense played great in this game. Seems only a couple weeks ago a bunch of you were calling for Clint Hurt's head. We have most of our starting back end healthy now and the guys up front are starting to gel nicely. The Bengals started out pretty well but it was all dink and dunk. Hurt made some slight adjustments and our boys balled out. That's what makes the loss so much tougher because we had 5 trips to the red zone and 3 of them ended up with nothing. 2 FGs out of those 3 and we are singing a different tune today. I thought Quandre Diggs had a great game. Hurt brought him up into the box several times and he laid some lumber out. Our DBs pretty much neutralized Chase which is extremely hard to do.
Now for the elephant in the room. DK Metcalf and his lame ass temper tantrums and coach Carroll seemingly doing sweet fuck all about it. 15 yd personal fouls are drive killers. ( I believe the one yesterday we had a big play to Tyler afterward that negated it but the point still stands). His bullshit needs to stop immediately and frankly his few great games don't make up for these childish antics. I'm honestly ready to get rid of the guy in a package that could get us a Caleb Williams. On his best days, DK is a top 6-7 WR in the game and a physical freak that is unstoppable. Unfortunately, those days are few and far between and most of the time he's about average and sometimes not even that. I don't mind having that edge but it has to be tempered with discipline.
Now that my negative emotions about the game have subsided a bit, I look back to the pre-season and how I thought the team would do this year. I figured on 4-2 to start the year and losing to the Bengals. If the team can get their shit together and play a solid game next week, that's where we will be. Of course, I saw how we should have left Cincy with a convincing win but we didn't so fuck it, on to Arizona. Watching our defense start to grow and improve game to game, I'm optimistic that we are still a WC team and likely around 10 wins. I honestly did not expect more than that. I do need to see Pete and Shane using Charbonnet more and as I mentioned during the game yesterday, why the fuck aren't we using our TEs better. Not going to rag on Shane too much as he called a pretty good game and the team, most notably, Geno didn't execute. But I really want to see more of Charbonnet, especially in the red zone and on 3rd downs.

Every so often, the defense wakes up and soon, they're actually doing their job, being more aggressive on plays, rather than settling for what I now call the Ken Norton Prevent.

The KNP was what killed us in our opener against the Rams, especially the second half, but it got more and more frustrating when they insisted on continuous use, hoping that it would be effective against the next team or two. Of course, our offense came through in the following games, but they can't always do that, and it just made yesterday's D seem rather wasted after they finally decided to step up. Against the Giants, it all clicked, but we're not known for consistency in any of our sports. (Who really is?)

And yes, I did come up with something in response to that KNP, some time before they finally wised up:

MGSeagullPreventDefense.png

A chat elsewhere inspired that after their own frustration with their team...I forget which.

I'm not surprised that the only person people are blaming for this loss is Geno. Goes with the territory.

And he certainly did not play well. Especially in the red zone. But I would also say that our OL really didn't play well in the 2nd half yesterday. This was ESPECIALLY true in the running game. I don't think we had a run play of more than 4 yards in the entire 2nd half. And once our running game was neutralized, they pinned their ears back and went after Geno.

He wasn't the only issue but he was the biggest issue. That last drive into the RZ when Geno threw it into the ground when he got hit Parkinson was open on a timing route and thats where Geno was throwing it BUT he threw it late, a good half second or more late and it was going to be knocked down or Intercepted. Had he thrown it on time it's a TD. DK got the credit on that target but thats because the ball hit the ground closes to him lol. He had DK earlier for a TD ... Didn't see him and DK got pissed costing us 15 yards. DK was open again for a TD and Geno once again NEVER got off his first read to DK. DK just waved his hand like " What ever you suck" LMAO.

Geno is SO LATE on his throws and one of his roll outs showed just how late he is. He was rolling out and i forget who it was in front of him but he took to long to throw it to them and they got like 3 yards BUT had he thrown it as soon as he saw them they would have been gone for 20+ yards. We were going Right to left on the broadcast, does anyone remember that play? He did it again going left to right costing the team a good 10 to 15 yards because he throws it SO late. He threw it so late he would have did better just running it! He let the defense close up on the guys each time.

Geno looks to have zero motivation and is just missing right now. It's like he doesn't trust his eyes so he is thinking to much ( Lmao right ) or he just isn't a sound QB and the luck is gone. I think it's more of the latter. Last year Geno took chances and it paid off this year he isn't taking chances what he is doing is waiting SO LONG on his throws that they are no longer open. He will throw 2 INT's a game if he doesn't speed up his reaction. These throws got to come out SOONER! That INT to DK .. DK WAS NOT OPEN!

Again, I'm surprised that some of you aren't talking about Jamal Adams play this weekend... You only want to talk about him when it's negative?

Witherspoon AND Adams on the field at the same time could be fun to watch as Spoon gains more exp and Adams gets his legs under him w/ more snaps...
