Pratt signs 1 year deal with Da Raiders...$4.25M, I think it was.

Good luck to him. I think many will look at his raw stats and wonder why he was cut, or that he'll be a to add to their team...but, anyone who watched him last year knows...too many 8-9-10 yard tackles, lost a lot in coverage, and generally looked slow at times. He benefited from a historically bad defense to rack up some raw stats, but his impact was low.

We'll see if the move gives him a bit of a boost that allows him to parlay this year into another 2-3 year deal to finish out his career...shocked this moved as quick as it did without any real mention of him meeting with the Colts since they have Lou.

The issue is the character clause the Bengals want him to sign...it's not been in any contract before this...and he's not been an issue prior to the draft - so I get why Stewart is balking at this.

Bengals just want to find any way possible to recoup some money somewhere...somehow...dimes...they love them some dimes.

May need to back up off the Bengals just a bit. According to Goodberry and Dehner...the language is not different than around the league, which was the original assumption being floated.

Per PDJ: It is my understanding they're offering the same language in this clause as the majority of first-round contracts and, for reference, have offered the exact language of the pick before (Walter Nolen) and after (Grey Zabel). It's different than that of Murphy and Mims the last two years and the Bengals generally structure contracts differently than most teams with guarantees, which matters. But the language being proposed for this specific clause is common across the NFL.

So what is the specific language that is causing the headache? It is different than last two picks of Bengals, but similar to the two picks in front of him this year in the draft. So what is the hold up?

At this point, I almost hope he is a bust so we don't have to worry about trying to sign him after the rookie contract.

Your guess is as good as mine. If the language is fairly common around the league, but hasn't been on previous Bengals' contracts...I can get the hesitation, but ultimately - the Bengals aren't doing anything that different from those around the league.

Goodberry pointed out that KC's language is actually more strict than what he's hard the Bengals are requesting...so...I dunno...

So basically a drama queen already.

Maybe a bit of an over-reaction on his part, but if no other Bengal has it - you certainly don't really want to be seen as the 1st guy to agree to something that sets a precedent for other picks and currently, no other teammate has...

at this pace, we know they never intended for him to be the day 1 starter.

no one knows what they are doing, but it's clear they sure as hell don't know either.
They don’t care. Lawyer Katie is going to prove she’s right. Hell or high water. The team starting 0-4 again with a top 3 QB in the world is of little substance to winning the argument.

If it is standard language around the league, then he is not being blackballed, even if he is the first Bengal being asked to sign a contract with different language than the rest of the team, IF it is standard language around the league. If the Bengals are being asked to start stepping up and giving out pro football contracts that match the big boys, then their old ways have to go in the trash, and maybe the language in this contract is the beginning, allowing them to turn over players who fall short instead of being so determined to pay them their whole contract. We are starting to cut guys much earlier than we used to, and maybe the current language doesn't reflect the new style of management. So they are having to rewrite that a little differently, like the rest of the league to take advantage of those conditions.

I am still interested in what is different so I can determine if it is fair or not. Not that we will find out, but I am now on thee fence with this, and blame both parties now. So until someone lets me review the language, they are both idiots. Stewart is already on my shit list.
