Funny thing is, Oakland only played Curry 2 games last year, hence keeping the Seahawks from getting their 4th round pick, a pick they just cut.

Sehawks name their 2013 team captains who were elected by the players.

QB Russell Wilson, DE Red Bryant, and LB Heath Farwell.

Jive, Harold, others, where do you find your best SEA news? Are there twitter sources, beat writers, particular newspaper sport sections that are specific to the Hawks? I try to catch a little of each of the teams in the NFC West and aside from Sando in the past, I am running dry on SEA articles aside from what is posted here. Hook a brother up, will ya?

Investigate Seahawks.net

On the plane coming back from Houston, one of the Seahawk local beat writers mentioned to me that his article for tomorrows edition was going to be about our coaches tipping off Sherm and our D about Houstons affinty for a short pass in the flat to their TE in a certain down/distance situations. Sherm read the play and pick 6'd Shaub purely from great coaching.

I had already read that info on .net and like a dumbass I mentioned that to the writer. I think I squashed him a little and I didn't mean to.

Seattle Seahawks Injury Update: Breno Giacomini Out 2-4 Weeks

Seattle Seahawks Injury Update: Breno Giacomini Out 2-4 Weeks

OMMENTARY | The banged-up Seattle Seahawks' offensive line will be without its starting right tackle for at least another two games.

Breno Giacomini underwent arthroscopic surgery on his ailing knee the morning of September 30 after missing Week 4's victory over the Houston Texans. While head coach Pete Carroll did not have a specific date for his return, something in the area of 2-4 weeks seems likely.

That means rookie Michael Bowie will get a couple of more starts at the right tackle spot, after filling in last week. The seventh-round draft pick played pretty well in his first career NFL start against Houston, especially considering the difficult circumstances.

Without three of its five starting offensive linemen, the Seahawks were able to go into Houston and win in overtime, after facing a 14 point fourth quarter deficit. The Texans' disruptive front seven did pressure Russell Wilson consistently, accumulating five sacks, but Seattle's makeshift offensive line was able to do just enough to pull out the overtime victory. Reigning defensive player of the year J.J. Watt had a strong game with eight tackles and half a sack, but many expected the damage to be much worse.

Despite the solid performance, Giacomini's injury is still very concerning for the Seahawks. Left tackle Russell Okung is out for an extended period of time as well, and center Max Unger's status is still unknown. This leaves the team very thin at the position, and another injury would be devastating.

Wilson has been pressured on 44.6% of his dropbacks this season, only trailing Michael Vick for the highest percentage in the NFL. The Seahawks' offensive line will have to protect Wilson more effectively for the team to keep winning games. Bowie has proven he can step up, but will now have to do it consistently for multiple games in a row.

Giacomini will at least miss a tough road matchup with the Indianapolis Colts and a home game against the Tennessee Titians. The earliest the entire starting Seahawks' line could play again isn't believed to be until Week 11.

Power Rankings: No. 2 Seattle Seahawks

A near-miraculous second-half comeback to remain unbeaten wasn’t enough for the Seattle Seahawks to keep the top spot in the ESPN.com Power Rankings.

Seattle pulled off a 23-20 overtime victory on the road against the Houston Texans, but judging by how poorly the Seahawks played in the first half, it’s easy to see why the Denver Broncos leaped ahead of them.

Seattle was down 20-3 at the half after giving up 324 yards (including 226 passing yards) to the Texans. And the Seahawks' patchwork offensive line, down three starters, was a hot mess most of the day, allowing five sacks and looking clueless on how to keep the Texans' defenders out of the backfield.

However, the Seahawks are at their best when things look their worst. Down 20-6 in the fourth quarter, quarterback Russell Wilson used his running ability to lead the team to a 98-yard touchdown drive. And Richard Sherman made Texans quarterback Matt Schaub the most unpopular man in Houston with a 58-yard pick-six to tie the game.

The Seahawks' final 42-yard drive led to a 45-yard Steven Hauschka field goal that won it after the Seattle defense had held the Texans scoreless for the last 41 minutes of the game at 20-all.

So it was a tale of two halves. The Seahawks didn’t look like a team worthy of a top-10 ranking in the first half. They looked like a team of heart, grit and a never-quit attitude in the second half.

The end result was another victory, but a one-spot drop in the rankings.

Impressive Colts defense is about to be tested

ust as notable as the combined 64 points the Indianapolis Colts scored in their victories over the 49ers and Jaguars are the points they did not allow.

The Colts yielded 10 points in those games, including Sunday’s thorough dismantling of the Jacksonville offense in a 37-3 blowout. Finding better back-to-back performances by the Indianapolis defense is challenging at best; there certainly hasn’t been a span like this under current coach Chuck Pagano.

But the celebration will be muted because of what lies ahead. The undefeated Seattle Seahawks visit Sunday, and the Indianapolis defense is likely to get its stiffest test to date.

“They have a roster that is filled with excellent football players on both sides of the ball,” Pagano said Monday. “They have a quarterback (Russell Wilson) who’s a nightmare to contain. They have a runner (Marshawn Lynch) that’s unbelievable. They have wide receivers who can all make plays.

“They have ballplayers all over the place. They play with swagger and they’re 4-0. We’ve got our hands full.”

But the Colts can build on the defensive consistency of the past two weeks. They have recorded seven sacks, their pass rush intensifying by the week (although it will be impacted by Monday’s news that linebacker Bjoern Werner will miss 4-6 weeks with a foot injury).

The secondary has played at a level rarely seen, with cornerback Vontae Davis enjoying perhaps his best season as a pro. The defensive backfield allowed no first downs via pass against the Jaguars, a remarkable statistic against any quarterback — even the Jaguars’ Blaine Gabbert.

So how has this come together so quickly for the defense, especially in light of their underwhelming play in the season’s first two weeks?

“There’s confidence, attitude, discipline, guys doing their jobs down after down after down,” Pagano said. “You can see it front to back. You don’t have to do anything (special). Just do your job and trust that the other guy is going to be where he’s supposed to be and fly around and play with an aggressive mindset and attitude. And now they’re getting to the point where they expect to play really good and go out and have great performances. We’ll just keep building on that.”

With offensive line banged-up, Seahawks offense has to adjust

With offensive line banged-up, Seahawks offense has to adjust

Tuesday, October 1, 2013 by:Stephen Cohen

The Seattle Seahawks played the NFL’s No. 1 defense missing three of its five starting offensive lineman. And they won. So that should mean smooth sailing for the rest of the season, right?

Not so fast.

Sunday’s win against the Texans was impressive, but in a league of week-to-week — not to mention in-game — adjustments, you can bet that opposing defenses will look to exploit the absences of left tackle Russell Okung, right tackle Breno Giacomini and center Max Unger, if he misses any more time.

How can the Seahawks continue to adjust with reserves James Carpenter, Lemuel Jeanpierre and Michael Bowie in the starting lineup? We’ll break it down.

1. Run, run, run

The Seahawks rank last in the league in passing attempts and second in rushing attempts. That shouldn’t change, especially next week against an Indianapolis Colts defense ranked No. 7 in the NFL against the pass.

Marshawn Lynch ranks fourth in the league with 79 rushing attempts through three games, averaging 3.9 yards per carry. Against the Texans, he tied his season high with 98 yards, but 45 of them came on one carry in the first half. If the Seahawks want to be successful on offense, they need to get the ground game going.

With backup linemen in, repetition is key for the Hawks. Pounding away at a defense again and again should eventually open up holes for Lynch or backups Robert Turbin and Christine Michael, who — with only 15 and nine carries so far, respectively — should be able to shoulder the load if necessary.

2. Go short

Russell Wilson has been under pressure 44.6 percent of his snaps this season, behind only Michael Vick (at 46.5 percent). He’s also been sacked 13 times, good for ninth-worst in the league. So what’s the antidote for a quarterback constantly under siege?

Short routes.

The Seahawks are last in the league in pass attempts per game, but near the top in yards per attempt. If they want to keep Wilson upright, that second number should come down. Short, quick routes mean less time for defenders to get to the quarterback.

It’s true that quick routes can limit the big-play capabilities of an offense and, frankly, these are the kinds of plays Percy Harvin is built for. If he comes back approximating the player the Hawks expected him to be when they acquired him, Harvin can add a dimension that will take a lot of pressure off of his quarterback.

3. Turn Russell loose

I’ll admit it’s a bit counter-intuitive to advocate for a quarterback to run the ball to keep himself safe, but hear me out. A few more designed runs for Wilson mean that pass-rushers — like Indy’s Robert Mathis, whom the Seahawks face on Sunday, and his league-leading 7.5 sacks — are less likely to sprint upfield to take the quarterback’s head off.

If a draw or bootleg early in the game plants just enough doubt in a defender’s mind to slow him down a millisecond, the price is well worth it — provided head coach Pete Carroll, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Co. get in Wilson’s ear and remind him to avoid big hits at all cost.

Are any of these solutions a silver bullet for a Hawks offense with a patchwork offensive line? No. But if the Seahawks, with reserves on the O-line, want to move the ball and keep their franchise quarterback off the turf, they’ll need to adjust somehow.

The Playbook: Previewing Seahawks-

Main Events
Seattle (4-0) at Indianapolis (3-1) — 1 p.m. ET, FOX: This isn’t a trap game for the Seahawks — more of a trap door. Though Seattle’s road woes are somewhat exaggerated, it’s true that they’re not as dynamic when they travel away from the friendly confines of CenturyLink Field. And the Colts have constructed a new offense under Pep Hamilton that combines a fundamentally sound run game with several different deep passing schemes that frequently put defenses in impossible binds. The key to that is Andrew Luck, who is doing far more at the line of scrimmage this year than in his rookie campaign.

MORE COVERAGE: 1st-quarter surprises | 1st-quarter disappointments |Power Rankings

Seattle’s defense is great, but the Colts have the capacity to challenge the Seahawks’ one obvious Achilles’ heel — they can be run on, and their defensive line will bend against power. Defensive tackle Brandon Mebane has played at an All-Pro level this season, but Pete Carroll and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn try to combine multiple formation and blitz looks with gap soundness, and it doesn’t always work. This may be the week that Indy running back Trent Richardson gets to eat with the big dogs. On the other hand, Seattle’s defensive backs will challenge — and may completely shut down — the Colts’ preference for deep routes off of play action. Look for Luck and Co. to try that more on Brandon Browner’s side than Richard Sherman’s.

Indy’s defense faces challenges of its own against a Seattle offense that is streaky but devastating at times. Russell Wilson is starting to get his timing down with his cadre of receivers after a slow start, and Marshawn Lynch has the ability to take over a game at times. However, with both of their starting offensive tackles out due to injury, the Seahawks will have a major problem containing Robert Mathis, who is tied with Kansas City’s Justin Houston for the NFL lead in sacks, with 7.5. This will be the key to a Colts win — dominate on both lines. They have the personnel and schemes to get that done. – Doug Farrar

Make your pick: Seattle Seahawks at Indianapolis Colts

Make your pick: Seattle Seahawks at Indianapolis Colts
Friday, October 4, 2013 by:Stephen Cohen

Last week, the Seattle Seahawks had a little luck on their side. This week, Luck plays for the opposition.

After narrowly escaping Houston with a tremendous comeback effort, the Hawks travel to Indianapolis this Sunday for a date with the 3-1 Colts. The matchup is sure to be billed as a battle between two stupendous sophomore quarterbacks in Seattle’s Russell Wilson and Indy’s Andrew Luck. But the teams have much more in common than just that.

Both are led by stout defenses, but where the Seahawks rely on Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and the rest of the fearsome Legion of Boom secondary, the Colts count on the pass-rush, led by five-time Pro Bowl defensive end/linebacker-hybrid Robert Mathis and his league-leading 7.5 sacks.

Each team also relies heavily on a power-run game. Seattle counts on a stable of backs led by Marshawn Lynch, while Indianapolis puts its trust in the newly acquired Trent Richardson, whom the Colts pried away from Cleveland on Sept. 18 in exchange for a first-round draft pick.

Another thing the two teams have in common: They’re both way better than the Jacksonville Jaguars, outscoring the Jags 82-20 combined over the past two weeks. Sunday’s contest should prove a more interesting matchup.

Last week, Seattle proved it can win on the road with the overtime victory against the Texans. After sleepwalking through three quarters of the game and spotting Houston a 20-6 lead, the Seahawks came alive in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points including the game’s turning point: Richard Sherman’s 58-yard interception return off of quarterback Matt Schaub. Steven Hauschka then kicked a 45-yarder in overtime to ensure the Seattle victory.

The Seahawks offense struggled for much of the game while missing three starting linemen, but Wilson came through when it counted, finishing with 123 passing yards to go along with 77 on the ground. Marshawn Lynch had another solid effort on the ground with 98 yards and a touchdown on only 17 carries.

The Seattle D was uncharacteristically torched by the Texans, allowing a 300-yard passer in Schaub, a 100-yard rusher in Arian Foster and a 100-yard receiver in Andre Johnson — the first time that’s happened since a 33-3 loss to Jason Campbell, Darren McFadden, Darrius Heyward-Bey and the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 31, 2010.

Seattle will be looking for a bounce-back effort against a Colts attack that — much like the Seahawks offense — favors muscle over style. They are led by Luck, who has looked every bit the part of a franchise quarterback since being selected first-overall out of Stanford in the 2012 draft. This year, he has passed for 918 yards and five touchdowns while running for an additional 125 and two scores.

His top receivers are the ageless Reggie Wayne and second-year man T.Y. Hilton, but the emerging star could be tight end Coby Fleener — Luck’s Stanford teammate — who caught five balls for 77 yards and a touchdown in last week’s 37-3 romp at Jacksonville.

After losing Vick Ballard for the season to a knee injury, the Colts made the audacious move of acquiring Richardson, the third pick of the 2012 draft after Luck and Washington’s Robert Griffin III. He should help improve a power running game designed to look much like the offense Luck ran at Stanford, which should come as no surprise after Pep Hamilton — Luck’s offensive coordinator in Palo Alto — was hired to the same position in Indianapolis prior to this season.

The Colts defense has been impressive thus far, ranking No. 8 overall in yards against. It all starts up front with Mathis, who ranks sixth in the NFL in career sacks among active players with 99. And while the rest of the defense remains mostly anonymous, their production speaks for itself.

The Hawks enter the game with with lingering injury concerns along the offensive line. Rookie Michael Bowie will start at right tackle for the second-straight game in place of Breno Giacomini, center Max Unger is questionable to return from his arm injury, and tight end Zach Miller is questionable with a hamstring issue. Michael Bennett and K.J. Wright are both probable, as is third-round pick Jordan Hill, who could make his NFL debut.

Indianapolis will mostly likely be without first-round defensive end Bjoern Werner and reserve running Ahmad Bradshaw. Several of their defensive starters, including cornerback Vontae Davis and safety LaRon Landry, are also questionable.

How do you think the Hawks will fare in their second-straight road test?
