Kings fan here. I'm not trolling, I just have a question. Why would you guys want Ovechkin? He has done nothing in the playoffs.
He's a puck hog, that was plus/minus -35 for the year. Ovie completely ignores defense, or even bothering to play in his own zone.
Trading Jumbo, Patty or both for Ovechkin gets you the same net results.

Sarcasm... the title of the thread was "Ridiculous trade thread"

a bag of pucks would be more serious...

Name a better GM available, there just isnt

This is what I always come back to as well Korky....I'm all for making any move, just as long as it makes us better.
Wilson will definitely take some heat, but McLellan is the one that's gonna get fired.
I like a lot of the things you guys suggested:

Love Pavelski, but like someone said, he goes missing at the wrong time. If you were EVER gonna trade him, it would be now, and the return should be insane, or you just pass.

Thornton is the guy I'd look to deal. Great regular season player,,,but once he goes against good teams in the playoffs, they shut him down. The dude will never shoot the puck, which makes zero sense since he has a great shot, and he won't take it to the net. Teams back off him, cut off his passing lanes, and he is then ineffective.

I'm sure Boyle and Hannan are gone...so gonna have to find a couple of D-Men.

I'd look to move Niemi for whatever you can get. Nemo is a fine goalie, but Stalock is better and a hell of a lot cheaper.

Try to move Havlat....easier said than done of course. I like Marty, but he's always hurt.

Taking a quick look at free agents, picking are slim, especially on D:

Forwards: Stastny, Callahan, Vrbata, Ott

D: Niskanen, N.Schultz

So - more seriously:

Go after Stastny. He doesn't put up enormous numbers but he has consistently done around 50-65 pts/year. He has had a couple of years he has been injured but over all a solid player.

Once he is inked, ditch Thornton. Break it down to him - he is fucking leaving the tank either to the minors or another team but his ass is being shown the door. Florida is shopping their 1st round pick.. that seems to be fair to me.

Next on that list is Pav. I love Pav, always have.. but his stock is at an all time high right now and with big changes on the team those numbers are going down and so is his stock. Not sure who I like to replace him - lots of suggestions elsewhere here, I had a busy year.. I'll defer to the smart guys in the room. A thought - if you were going to look at strictly a 3rd line guy would be Iginla. Not exactly going younger but I think he has a couple of years left and hes big/nasty enough to work with our other guys on line 3 to keep it lethal. Not to mention he has some pretty good leadership qualities to contribute to the team.

Sign Stalock - fucking critical. Ship Niemi somewhere else.. get some late draft picks if possible.

Let Boyle and Hannan go - appreciate the time they were here, but that time has come to an end.

Resign Mike Brown - I wouldn't break the bank but I think there is enough there to give him a spot on that 4th line.. maybe the 3rd line.

Look at some ways to get Weber in SJ. I heard on Hockey Night In Canada Radio today that the Sharks have about $12million to work with - more if some names start getting scratched. We need to bolster the defense. Stuey is still serviceable but he needs to be shifted to a depth/short minutes guy. Irwin made some good plays (and some mistakes) but I think is good enough to give a full spot. Adding Weber to that crew gives us really 2 mad-ass dmen in Pickles and Shea - both with very different skill sets.

Next - consider moving Patty. I think he has the most value of a lot of these guys and we can probably get the most back. The problem is who do you like to take his place? I dont think there is any way you get a Kane/Towes/Datsyuk/etc.. like guy out of their respective organizations but I think an attempt needs to be made.

Next - need to understand why Burns and Logan completely evaporated for 4 games. Is this a Joe problem? Something else? I think these are both solid pieces to the puzzle but evaporate they did - at least Logan took ownership of it.

Continue to develop Nieto and Hertl. They made some mistakes in the playoffs but honestly their contributions were far greater than the mistakes. I think we are lucky these guys stepped up and performed as we really dont need to shop for their positions - just fill in the leadership roles.

Havlat - i think you need to sit his ass down too.. either he takes a trade, walks, or you just play him till he breaks and retires but we need to move on from Glass Man.

Oh - and it appears that Doug is fucking pissed... and we will hear of some changes soon. He came out and said those changes will not be named Todd either:

Sharks GM Wilson recommends McLellan keeps job after collapse

If you take a step back and really look at it, its the right move. There has to be changes and as many of you have said on here, the players are the only thing that hasnt changed it's always been the coaches.

The system is good and its proven to work, its players failure to execute and quite frankly they've probably have gotten far to comfortable in San Jose. Doug Wilson has worked hard to make San Jose a desirable location for players to land, and its become that.

Its kind of a lack of respect on the players part, and mistaking Dwil's kindness and respect for them as weakness.

That being said i wont believe a word he is saying unless he ships out Dumbo and Pavelski or atleast players of that magnitude. I cant see trading burns, kids got fire size and speed, Plus hes young and locked up for a while.

Change and shake up of the roster is kind of mandatory at this point

So true - Wilson and TMAC and I guess you could argue Sutter as well. All three had really solid success in the regular season and then varied success(failure) in the playoffs.

But as you said - talk of change is cheap. If they come back with new orange jerseys and optimism I don't think its going to fly as 'change' to the season ticket holders.

I still think part of their failure is onlu wearing those shitty black jerseys in the playoffs. 2nd most wins in the nhl the
Past 10 years - but a losing record wearing black. Ditch those putrid jerseys, then start dismantling shit

I am OK with Tmac staying but if he goes then who they hire is a huge choice. I would love to see trotz as I think he gets guys to work hard, kinda like Roy or Tippett. However, while the composure meltdown is on Tmac, as well as the PP (I think), the system he put in is respectable and I love how he handles the young players. Nieto, Hertl, Couture, Wingels, Sheppard, Braun, and even Demers and irwin to a degree have developed nicely thus far under his and LR's tutelage. I think that deserves some respect.

While burns and cooch's disappearance is disappointing, the annual disappearance of patty and jumbo speaks louder and if those are your leaders, then I am not sure what a coach can do.

You could hear from both Tmac and DW that they both focus on the sisters, patricia and josephine AKA "The core" or "Some individiduals or group of individuals". That likely includes pavs as well, but I am doubtful that DW would have given both patty and joe the 3 years deals today. I think he keeps patty but definitely not Jumbo.

The truth is that messing with nemo, stuart, havlat, or boyle and bringing in a little help on D is all well and good, but it wont prevent the annual disappearance. The only thing that will do that is the add 2 threats on D and get rid of Jumbo.

That's why if they can trade jumbo, nemo, stuart, and havlat and add Weber and Justin Schultz, then that will pretty much do the trick. The D would have multiple offensive threats, a dominant #1 and still lots of depth at forward, particularly if they sign stastny or callahan as well. They can afford it under the cap if they can get rid of jumbo, nemo, stuey, and havlat. That's roughly 20M on the cap, so Weber (7.8), stalock ( likely 1.5), Schultz (likely 3-4M), callahan (5-6M). That's roughly a wash in salary. Don't know if dougie can pull that, but if he does, then it would be interesting.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are in bad need of quality Dmen but have an overabundance of really quality forwards. Maybe the 2 teams can get together and get something done that greatly improves both teams. Imo, the Bolts have too many offensive D-men and lack a gritty, stay at home d-man. The Bolts have a lot of young & talented forwards that took the team to the playoffs with Stamkos being gone for most the season. The only thing wrong with this scenario is that our GM, the Village Idiot, does not have the word "defense" in his vocabulary & Coach Pooper would probably be too stupid to actually play a defensive D-man!

People talk about guys being “good guys.” Jonathan Toews is a good guy, Anze Kopitar is a good guy. It’s about performing up to your capability when it’s on the line. We will get into that with different people and we will make decisions accordingly.

That's from Doug wilson, that pretty much indicates to me that both Thornton and patty just got put on notice

Yeah - It will be interesting to see what they do, especially when they just extended these two guys for three years. At the worst, this is just firm wording.. which I don't think will accomplish much. If not handled smartly this could get worse imho..

As a side note - if indeed one of these guys gets bounced regardless of a NMC then Mr. Glass is done - I can't see how they wouldn't get rid of him as well while they are taking out the trash.

Seems long overdue to me, but the 2014 choke job should be the straw that broke camel's back.
Superstars get that title because they rise to the occasion where Joe and Patty ritually disappear when the stakes are highest. So long as those two are the team leaders, I don't see much hope of the Sharks' fortunes improving.

Looking at the the UFA list, you know who stands out to me??

Steve Downie. That is one mean SOB, but like torres, he can play. He averages 14 goals and 40 pts/ 82 games played over his career. He's tough, he's mean, he's a little dirty, but the sharks would strike fear in other teams if they signed him and steve Ott. Imagine having Ott, torres, and Downie on your team. You'd be the meaning, nastiest, scariest team to play against in the league. BUT, all three can also score goals and play hockey, so it's not just goon city.

You get rid of Jumbo and his soft ass as well as havlat and add downie and ott in the UFA market and you'll have a team with some fire. Furthermore, Downie has shown that he can be effective in the PO's. In his 2011 playoffs, Downie had 14 pts in 17 games and a +7 in just 12:30 of TOI. That's humongous! Ott's postseason numbers are less impressive and he's older, so I wouldnt overpay for him, but it would sure be tempting nevertheless.

Bolland, too could be good depending on injury status.

I would be fine downgrading the firepower just a bit to add that fear factor, grit, nastiness, and physicality. When the sharks started the series laying the lumber on LA, it was fun to watch, but the character of all the top 9 forwards with the exception of wingels and maybe burns is soft. Cooch, pavs, jumbo, patty, hertl, nieto are all skilled players but wont hit. Torres is physical but was clearly injured later in the series. They need more skilled, physical players who can pick up their game when it matters.

They need to change the image of the sharks from Jumbo-patty's softies to hard nosed, nasty, gritty, yet skilled. Adding downie would be a big, cheap step in that direction in my opinion.

One other sweet trading piece is burnsie. I love the toothless man, but in truth, he was added to be a #1 dman and he isnt, at least he hasnt been here. As a forward, he's good, but not spectacular. That said, he has a very reasonable salary and might fetch a nice return given both his production offensively, his physicality and he flexibility regarding playing D or forward, something only really dustin byfuglien has been able to do with any flair.

If the sharks do shoot for weber, I could see burns as a big piece of that trade. they could also move pavs to get younger and faster. In truth, pavelski has reached his apex. He will get worse from here not better. 3rd in the league in goals, top 10 in points, as well as a good faceoff man, solid on the PK, etc. He should be considered around the league as a real elite player, who has shown some good history in the playoffs as well. If the sharks are looking for help on D, pavs can also land some high quality I would figure.

Weber and/or Hedman would be a nice return. Maybe pietrangelo or shattenkirk out of STL given their depth on D, and disappointing recent playoffs. Yandle from Phoenix would be nice, too, and might be cheaper given their PO miss and his incredible -23. Lots of potential top pair Dman could be on the market especially if the sharks dangle big time forwards.

Of course, I wonder if its all moot unless jumbo moves. As long as he's there, I suppose he will set the tone and listening to Purdy on CSN, he said that Jumbo is professional and classy but lacks the fire needed to win. Thanks captain obvious, but still if he stays, can the team really convert into a competitive and firehearted crew?

Ideally it would be great to sign a marquee FA like Statsny or Vanek. With Boyle walking, buyout Havlat and Stuart, and moving Niemi they have the cap room, but doubt DW agrees on term that these guys could get. Also a trade for Weber with a package based around Pavelski, much rather move JT, but I don't see that happening even in the most ridiculous of scenarios.

I think a highly unlikely borderline ridiculous team, yet plausible I would like to see would look something like this.

Buyout Havlat and Stuart

Sign vanek or Statsny

Sign Downie

Sign Elliot or Gustavsson

Trade Pavelski, Wingles, Tennyson and a 2nd for Weber

Trade Niemi prospect/pick maybe to Winnipeg for Enstrom

Vanek/Hertl/Thornton/Burns
Marleau/Couture/Nieto
Torres/Hertl/Statsny/Downie
Shepperd/Desjardins/Kennedy/Burish/Brown

Vlasic/Weber
Enstrom/Braun
Irwin/Demers

Stalock
Elliot/Gustavsson
