But that is sports. Being risk adverse is why the Mariners are in this spot they are. If the Mariners trade for Vlad and win the WS this or next year is it worth it?

Is it trading away your 1st round pick prospects for 2 years of Vlad all hinged on an "if". I guess its debatable his entire career he had with the Blue Jays didn't make them a WS contender that's how I would look at it. What "if" we make that deal and make the playoffs then get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round is it worth it?

Teams trade for expiring contracts all the time. Yimi is n an expired contract.

I mean it wouldn't be devastating if Yimi decided to leave us and test free agency also considering we didn't give up a lot to acquire him.

Yes, you go all in within reason with the rest of the division being unusually down and not having a great chance of making a WC.

You can't spend all year telling everyone it doesn't matter how bad they hit, just get there because the top team doesn't always win, and then tell us you don't want to see them make key trades that might give up prospects because you might not get out of the first round anyway.

The Mariners have outrighted Chris Devenski, creating a space on the 40-man roster. I honestly didn't know we had Chris Devenski.

The “if” is sports. You could say the same thing about the draft. What “if” they chose player X or Y. Then you have to look at the hit rate of Mariners prospects vs getting a bonafide MLB player. Vlad isn’t the MVP candidate but he also isn’t a top 100 prospect who is in A or AA. This year and next year the Mariners have to try to make a run at the WS cause this core is going to get blown up in 2026.

5 hours left. Some of the trades these past two days have seemed so...lame. Almost like they are lip service to appease fans who want to see their ownership make a move. But I just don't see how acquisitions like Franky Montas or Yusei Kikushi, based on the seasons they are having this year, are going to give their team an advantage.

Gotta give Diptot credit. I think he is one of the top winners in the trade deadline this year. Granted he still has five hours left to screw it up, but so far, he's better than most. But we still need more.

The caveat to him being a deadline winner is he wasn't able to do enough for us to make the playoffs, let-alone be a WS contender. If he'd gotten Arozarena and Yimi a month+ ago, they may have been meaningful, or if he picked up another legitimate bat, now.

Or, like multiple others have already said in this thread, if he'd done his job in the offseason and recognized how poorly constructed the lineup was (like 90% of M's fans did) and done something about it then...

Even though they didn't do the trade the answer would still have been YES

There shouldn’t be a question. A chance at a World Series is better than banking on hitting on all of the prospects. The whole rebuild was banking on all of the prospects hitting and they got the pitchers, Julio and Cal. Every top 100 positional prospect they have had flamed out in Seattle.
