Past my bedtime so I didn't get to watch but great to see. If this is what Peterson can bring to the table with any consistency we're in good shape. We've seen good things from him before, just needs to hold it together now.

Wow. This was a wild & bizarre one...especially that 8th inning.
It sucked early...got a little better in the middle innings...then even better again later...only to suck once more at the end.
Bassitt for whatever reason didn't have it tonight. He couldn't get out of the 5th.
Middle relief was serviceable, yet unfortunately the set up and closer unit coughed it up badly in the 8th & 9th.
Shit happens...but our bullpen guys walking hitters late in games needs to come to a damn halt.
They had it....we took it back....then gave it right back to them when it counted. Ughh.

Final: SFG 13 - NYM 12
Rubber game matinee on Wednesday.

How we respond in the Wednesday finale will be very telling.

Mets did put together some very good AB's and got solid production at the plate from just about everyone in the lineup....so there's that.
Relief pitching has got to be better though.....there's also that.

He's been much better this year but I have absolutely zero faith in Diaz in a big spot. Fingers crossed for health across the board because come trade deadline we need to get some serious impact players for the bullpen.

Here's a wild idea that won't come to fruition but... what if we converted someone like Matt Harvey to the bullpen?

It wasn’t just him though, it was the other guys Buck went to prior.
For the most part they’ve been pretty good so far this season. Last night to me was more of a fluke and an outlier than anything. It just wasn’t their night.
Gotta turn the page and focus on winning today and taking the series.
That said... I’m sure some changes or upgrades for the BP will be looming in the weeks and months ahead.

Game Notes

LHP Thomas Szapucki has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and will start.
RHP Steven Nogosek was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Thomas Szapucki will make his 2022 debut with the Mets today! He pitched in one game last season, his only major league game, where he allowed six runs from seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. About a month after his major league debut, he was sidelined for the rest of the season recovering from ulnar nerve transposition surgery. This year in the minors he has started seven games, tossing 22 innings with a 2.86 ERA and a 1.318 WHIP. In his last start he was used only for one inning, probably in preparation for being called up today. Before that he had a three start stretch where he tossed 71, 67 and 70 pitches which lead to four innings, four innings and five innings of work. That’s a useful barometer to figure out his limit this afternoon.

At least Lindor is staying hot.
Just smacked a solo shot.
9-2 SF...mid 6th.

Also....hope McNeil doesn't land on the IL with a knee issue or concussion protocol after crashing into the LF wall in the 3rd He seems to be okay in the dugout though. :hope:

Jankowski hit for him in the 4th and remained in the game in LF.

Mets lose the finale 9-3 and drop the series 1-2.
Btw....Mets took the season series with SF 4-3.

A bit of good news....

Mets left fielder Jeff McNeil, slid face first into the low fence in left field foul territory after catching Donovan Walton’s third-inning fly. McNeil bruised his left knee when hitting the wall, left for a pinch hitter in the fourth and said he anticipates playing Friday.

Up Next:
After an off day Thursday, Mets RHP Carlos Carrasco (4-1, 3.50) starts Friday night's home stand opener against Philadelphia.
