Mets win the finale 5-4 in 10...to sweep Philly in storybook fashion.

The Wrap & Recap....

The Box....

The Vids....

Trainer's Room....

NY relief pitcher Drew Smith reached with his bare hand for J.T. Realmuto's two-out comebacker in the seventh and it deflected off his right pinkie for a single into center field. The reliever was visibly angry as he walked off the field with an athletic trainer. "Frustration," Smith said. "You know as a pitcher you're not supposed to do that."
X-rays were negative for a fracture, the Mets said, and Smith is day-to-day. A doctor popped his pinkie back in place and he hopes to avoid the injured list. "I honestly thought it was broken on the mound," he said. "Dodged a bullet."

Up Next....
Mets LHP David Peterson (2-0, 2.16 ERA) starts Monday night against the Nationals at Citi Field.
He is 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA in three career outings versus Washington.
RHP Erick Fedde (3-3, 3.55) will start for the Nats.

Kind of bummed Buck wouldn't let Peterson get that last out in the 5th....but I understand pulling him.
He was close to 90 pitches...and he was missing locations.
Nats scored a run and still have the bases loaded with 2 outs.
Holderman is now on the bump....
.....and he got the 3rd out on a pop up.

12-4 Mets, mid 5th.

I don't expect huge things out of our 4-6/7 pitchers but at least give us some innings.

Mets win the opener 13-5.
They now have a 33-17 record.
Game # 50 was a memorable one.

The Mets trailed 3-0 after the top of the 1st inning, but led 12-3 at the end of the 4th.

The Wrap & Recap....

The Vids....

Trainer's Room....
RHP Drew Smith (dislocated right pinkie) is day-to-day. No fractures were detected after he got hurt reaching for a comebacker Sunday night. OF Brandon Nimmo (right wrist) took swings in the batting cage Monday afternoon but sat out his third straight game, and could be back in the lineup on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Up Next....
Mets RHP Trevor Williams (0-3, 4.36 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season Tuesday night as he auditions to fill the fifth spot in a depleted rotation for a while. He'll face Nationals LHP Patrick Corbin (1-7, 6.30 ERA).

Sounds like a great time for Trevor to pick up his first W.

Looking ahead we have a brutal SoCal road trip coming up (Dodgers, Padres, Angels) then come home for a series against the Brewers. Let's take these winnable games while we can.

Agreed.
Don’t want to see any June swoons unless of course it’s by the other teams.

Not surprising but disappointing. Hopefully he goes nuts down there and gets his value up:

He's a damn good first baseman, serviceable left fielder and solid teammate, but he's got to pick it up and start raking at the plate like we all know he's capable of doing. Unfortunately his sudden lack of power and some things he said to the media recently hasn't helped his predicament. Hopefully it becomes a wakeup call for him. It can happen to anyone.
How he responds now will be telling.

That said...who else do we have to play 1B other than Pete on a full time basis?

From MLB.com:
May 31: OF/1B Dominic Smith optioned to Triple-A Syracuse; RHP Adonis Medina recalled from Triple-A
Smith, who was notably kept on the roster in favor of Robinson Canó at the start of May, heads to the Minors for the first time since 2019. In 19 games since Smith's four-hit night against the Phillies on May 1 that secured his spot ahead of the May 2 roster deadline, he's batted just .130/.226/.217 with seven RBIs and five walks. He's yet to hit a home run this season.
Medina was recalled for the sixth time already this season. He has a 5.87 ERA in 7 2/3 innings in relief in the Majors, but a 2.00 ERA in nine innings with Syracuse.
