I like the idea of drafting developing and bringing up your own guys, but you need to increase the payroll, go out and get some proven studs while keeping the core of your drafted young players… Mariners have been historically cheap, and the results are what they are …

the QO for 2024 will probably be a little over $20 mill. so we either offer that (unlikely) and get a compensatory draft pick if he refuses it, or we do a multiyear contract offer for (i'm assuming) at least $15 mill/year to get him to stay as NW suggested. if i'm wrong about this, please tell me.
That’s what I thought. I was mostly saying I think it would be dumb if Teo to accept a 3 year 15 million instead of just waiting for the QO. It is a really weak FA class (at least IMO from a fans perspective) I think this is a case that the FO gets behind closed doors and asks him not to take it if they offer him. Overall Teo wasn’t terrible but he was a black hole on the offense for 4 months.

A key though if drafting and developing the route is that you have to make lots of trades as well. Outside of the Castillo deal, they haven’t really made any trades trading top prospects for other controllable guys. They given up prospects who developed into studs for nothing but they haven’t really given up any of their top guys besides when Jerry made the Marco trade. They can’t be risk adverse with both payroll and giving up prospects.

As well as they are a playoff caliber team so he needs to quit making Sewald and Graveman type deals where they subtract from the big league roster in a pennant chase for other teams scraps. Toro was scraps for the Astros and Rojas and Canzone were scraps for the DBacks.

There I one more.thing.to talk about and
And that.
Is.age.if the.team..

The mariners .basic..move forward team.
Is

Crawford
Julio.
Kelenic..
Raliegh ..
Rojas
Caballero...

So far ..
So.in trades .mariners..need..to add..
Young..guys..
Pre..free.agent guys..
And to connect...with guys.comming.from the minors .

And that.only..3 or 4 guys to go...
As.
Shown...by.my guys ..
Indea .
Garcia .
And..
Jimenez..
All..are young .and that younger age..
Connects..to guys comming from.
The minors..
The draft..is pretty.much..a done deal...

Closing..the gap...
Between..AA..and the mariners..
Is the last..
Part...

And..while I have found guys for example..
And that would work..
Baseball..is often diff ..in reality..than on
Paper..
So .we will .see what happens..

As the baseball turns..

Gilbert and kerby..
Are also..what every other team .
Wants.to trade.
For..
Oooh...yeah..they would..take..miller.or.woo.
As well..
And that..is the mariners urgency..
And.
Draft.has not .drafted.replacments.
For them..and that will .be an issue.
Coming soon.in draft..
Next year .or the next..
And they are some.of the best..
Young Pitchers in beseball..
And they went to collage..
So you can't really...say..hs guys are better...
You just find talent where you do..

A quote from Cory Seager after the Rangers spent money this year and reached the playoffs "To be able to go out and spend some money and get the guys we needed in here – and this is what the reward is," Seager said."

Gee I wonder why his brother Kyle quit.

That quote was a shock that it was really the only shot Corey has taken at the Mariners. Jerry did Kyle dirty but overall the FO did him really well in terms of overpaying him and treating him like a hometown hero.

I posted this in the other thread, but hell with it, it should go here, too:

Now it's Jerry's turn to squirm...and we're enjoying every second of it!

But he gets no easy forgiveness from me. Now he gets to try and prove his true intentions...IF HE CAN.

In 1994 Mariners were 22nd in payroll at $27M. They bumped that up to $34M in 1995 making them 11th. For a Mariners franchise, this was huge. Our cheap ass owner today can't even do this. So sad of a franchise.

Who..in free agents could help..not pitchers.
We know those..

Conforto..does not really fit at this point.
Cody belabger...no meriners have outfields

Yasmami grandle. Catcher..

The list .does not get .better..
So trade..is the best .option.
