I can't see Perralta having his timing back to be on the playoff roster. He makes more sense than Santiago but then that would be disregarding the fact Santiago has been with the team all year.

Dirks has started hitting so I think he solidifies his spot. And I am not sure a platoon is worth it. We worried about his range at SS. He would practically be a orange cone in the OF.

I know on mlb network when the suspension was handed down....one of the guys hosting said peralta can still work out with the team if he chose to....he said he didnt choose to at the beginning.....then someone stated it almost helped him by giving him rest.....said he would be able to still work out and use the miami series to get some game work in......i think harold reynolds had mentioned that he should be able to return if the tigers wanted him....i was just saying....if peralta could play LF....id rather have his bat than 2E vs a lefty. I doubt it will happen....just saying....i also said DK and dirks should had been learning 2B when we were trotting raturd out there....i know its not the ps3:noidea:

Wheffff... So much for resting the Big Fella. And for worrying about who should man his spot.

Im gonna be pretty mad if miggy has to come out of the lineup tonight.....i sure hope hes fine....we are up enough games where miggy can still rest.....but i guess we want that home field advantage.

I don't think the Tigers are going to mess with the OF.....Dirks is waking up and TE is still hitting .278....Kelly will get time ....

When they sat him for five days a few weeks ago and he was still very obviously hurting upon his return, it became very clear that his only chance to get anywhere close to healthy would be a DL stint. So, looks like they're willing to take a 60% Cabrera rather than no Cabrera for a couple of weeks and hope that does the trick without hurting the Tigers chance for best record in AL.

Do you really think the best record is worth anything? Home field just isn't worth sacrificing anything for.

My best guess about Miggy is that 2 weeks off wouldn't do enough to improve his health to offset the negative ramifications (timing, rust). The injuries that he has (ab, groin) are the type that take months to totally heal.

I don't get the day to day sitting. I'm no doctor, and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but one day here and there seems odd. (Maybe he's got great career numbers against Jahwn Lestah?). Ah well, I just didn't want to see Ramon get the start.

2E is falling fast, given where he was at. The 15 minutes of fame at best that I predicted in spring training turned into 30 minutes, but it's finally over. Hit .222 in July and .216 in August ... .203 since the break. And only ONE XBH since the break. Having Castellanos in LF platoon would make some sense if he gives him a chance in September and he shows something, but knowing Leyland it isn't happening. He's not going to mess with what he's been doing, and 2E's useless bat will be playing vs LH starters in the playoffs.

The day-here-day-there is simply whether he can go or not. The five days in a row a few weeks ago was the experiment to see if extended time would work, and it didn't. The next experiment would be a DL stint, and they obviously have decided that they don't want to risk that given it would take Miggy's bat out of the lineup for two weeks as they are chasing best record in the league and there's still no guarantee the DL stint would do the trick.

Well, I absolutely agree with your second paragraph, and gut feeling is that the Tigers do as well. Which is why they haven't done it. Whether it matters or not, I do feel that the Tigers think it is important to get best record and given that the DL stint would likely not be successful have decided to take the approach they have with Miggy.

max actually more IP per start (6.79) than Felix (6.70), Darvish (6.71) and Shields (6.75). I know lots of national guys give the impression that max is a five and dive pitcher. but, as they say ' never let the facts get in the way of a good story'.

Well said, adrian2. He's matured and become a terrific PITCHER (as opposed to just a thrower) since May 2012, but some just can't see that he really is a different pitcher now I suppose. Fister leads Tigers in BB/9 at 1.9 and Scherzer and Porcello are close behind at 2.1. Sanchez and JV both much higher at 2.7 and 3.2, which is the sort of range where Max was in the past. Max is not a nibbler anymore.

Not a big 2E supporter but he is hitting .250 in the last 30 games ....Dirks .293...

Has he ever even came out in the ninth? I don't hate him or anything. But he still frustrates me, despite is phenomenal success this season.

Dirks hitting 294 with an ops of 820 the second half. he has regained his spot as the lefty in the LF platoon. matt however hitting 203 the second half. More importantly only 243 against lefties.

There have been games where he could, but Leyland wouldn't do it. Five games with 8 IP's and 103-110 pitches. JV does that and he comes out for the 9th. Max isn't the manager. He has no control over JL's decisions.

Max could have gone into the ninth or had complete games on several occasions. Lots of times with a big lead JL gas pulled him with a relatively medium pitch count 90-105 when he could have gone longer.

Coulda. Shoulda. Woulda. Didn't. Doesn't. Won't. Got 15 Vbucks on him to win tonight though. And 10 on the under. Felt a lot more confident with Fister. But that had as much to do with Lackey as Dougie.
