Inglesias = Rookie of the year and gold glove?

I bet it was tough for Sox fans to watch him yesterday!

I think there are definitely Gold Gloves in Iglesias' future. He is an amazing defender. Not this year, though. He will end the year with only around 80 games played at SS.

Though, the voters of the GG do some strange things. (Such as the infamous Rafael Palmeiro GG when he played most of year as DH). Incumbents always have an advantage in GG voting, so guys tend to get a stranglehold on the award, and it's hard for a kid to make a dent in the voting unless he's getting a lot of pub (like Trout last year).

Rookie of the Year is realistic. No one is running away with it in the AL, so if Jose can keep that average above .300 then he stands a good chance.

The kid Bogaerts will be a good one for the Red Sox. Much better bat than Iglesias, though not as good of a defender. He's the reason that Iglesias became expendable.

it may hard for iggy to unseat hardy at SS. He played a great deal at 3B at Boston before the trade and Hardy does have 24 HR, 70 RBI and only 9 errors. Iggy has only 54 games at SS to go with 36 at 3b with a combined 5 errors. Not sure if the voters will count hold his time away from SS against him.

Good to see you HD! On the Nicky C deal. He might not be much of an infielder. But the word on the street is he ain't much better the further from the plate he gets. I'm all for maximizing the kids value. And riding the pine behind the likes of Tui and Ramon isnt getting that done. Garcia got us Iggy, cuz he played. Maybin and Miller got Miggy, same deal. I don't see the downside to putting the kid in the lineup.

If you put him at 3B, where he hasn't played professionally since about June of 2012, and he botches several grounders, you WILL see a down side. Putting him in the OF a couple days a week makes sense, but the likelihood is he doesn't play in the postseason, so you've also got to keep Tui and Dirks fresh.

Hey, smitty!

One of the worst things you can do for a bad defender is let him play multiple positions. The Ryan Raburn syndrome. You need to try to let him become adequate at one position rather than very bad at many. Raburn was actually starting to become an adequate OF the one season when they played him exclusively out there, and then they started messing around with him again and he deteriorated again. I always felt that when Raburn showed up to Lakeland they should have taken any IF glove he had and thrown it in the garbage and let him strictly be a corner OF. Since there is no future at 3B with Detroit, but there could definitely be a future in LF in Detroit, I don't think Nicky C should play 3B while Cabrera is out.

Tui played third the other day. He's of no value, and most likely won't play for the Tigers again once the regular season is over. I don't think manning third base has changed since last summer. If it has, it didnt bother Jimmy enough to not stick a guy there who hadnt played the position in several years. Like Peralta returning, a little rust doesn't scare me with Nicky C. Why would an infield error hurt his trade value? Like you said, he's been in the outfield. (On account of Miggy, not his own skills, IMO)

HD, if Nicky C. is going to draw Raburn comparisons I hope we trade him faster than any "prospect" in recent memory. As to where he's been placed, IMO it's based less on him, and more on the HOF slugger who returned to the hot corner after Nicky was already in the organization. And I'd like that slugger to rest. (Completely agree on Raburn in the infield, but that was JL who kept sticking in there, for months and years.)

In the short time he has been in Detroit he is becoming a fixture on ESPN's highlight reel. He is getting the Ozzie type of love from them. I think Gold Glove this year will be a tough accomplishment but really Hardy is the best we have in the AL? I think starting next year he will be a tough one to beat out.

Absolutely agree. Hardy is good, but not a "spectacular" defender. Iglesias could start a stranglehold on the award starting as early as next year.

I can't see Perralta having his timing back to be on the playoff roster. He makes more sense than Santiago but then that would be disregarding the fact Santiago has been with the team all year.

Dirks has started hitting so I think he solidifies his spot. And I am not sure a platoon is worth it. We worried about his range at SS. He would practically be a orange cone in the OF.

I seriously doubt that the Tigers will pull a Mayo Smith and play anyone out of position to get him into the line-up in the playoffs.

No, not really. I hate watching him go six with 108 pitches. Nice he's getting wins. But I'll like him a lot more when he nibbles elsewhere.

Wow, you really are a tough sell, aren't you smitty? He's the likely Cy Young winner, among league leader in wins, win %, K's, ERA, WHIP (his walks are WAY down this year), batting avg against, and you're STILL not convinced?

btw, he's averaging 7 IP's per game. He has definitely grown as a pitcher this year (and, really, since May of 2012). Same sort of maturation we saw from JV.

Wheffff... So much for resting the Big Fella. And for worrying about who should man his spot.

When they sat him for five days a few weeks ago and he was still very obviously hurting upon his return, it became very clear that his only chance to get anywhere close to healthy would be a DL stint. So, looks like they're willing to take a 60% Cabrera rather than no Cabrera for a couple of weeks and hope that does the trick without hurting the Tigers chance for best record in AL.
