Really?

The only QB better than Watson right now is Mahomes.
This is not a true statement and if the Jaguars had any idea of giving up the #1 overall pick alone for Watson they would have tied him up/drop him off in Jacksonville and try to run out with that pick to draft Lawrence.

The problem here is moral hazard.

What keeps Watson for getting traded and getting a new deal. And the next year his new team gets a new Head Coach or Offensive Coordinator ..etc
And he throws another tantrum and wants to be traded again.

Denzel Mims could be a weapon with some semi competent coaching. And Crowder is a solid slot WR.

But yeah, they suck.

The upside though is that because their pick this year is so high, they wouldn’t have to add as much as other teams so they might still be able to assemble other pieces.
Well if they trade for Watson a lot of those picks are gone they would have to look to spending their cap space. If they trade for Watson they should go hard at signing JuJu Smith I think they would work well together.

I know I’m on an island, I’m not a Watson fan

he has been a part of some solid rosters and done nothing notable in big playoff games

think he is one of those fantasy QBs who isn’t good on the real life postseason big stage

That's just not true.

But more to the point - you'd have way more prime years of Lawrence, plus the first 5 years are salary controlled to help rebuild the team. Watson is going to have a sizeable contract, and may even want to re-negotiate after the trade. A rebuilding team that needs so much doesn't need an overpriced QB at this stage.

So one of the reasons DW seems pissy is that he did not like the hiring of Nick Caserio, apparently ownership had told him they would discuss the next GM selection with him, a huge mistake of true. DW is not management, he is not team operations and no player should have any input into those business decisions. I feel DW is acting like a whiner. FIRE SALE his ass and attempt another rebuild.

I stand by this comment.

He doesn't have the talent that Rodgers, RW, Brees, or Brady has.

Yet, he posted great numbers:

70%, 301ypg, 8.9ypa, 33 TD's, just 7 INT's, and a 112.4 Passer Rating.

I wouldn't go that far but in terms of value, I think the only players who have more value in the whole NFL are Mahomes, Allen and Wilson. Its really difficult to trade the third of fourth most valuable player in the NFL under any circumstance.

I mentioned Miami because Tua coming out of college was actually a higher regarded QB prospect than Watson and Miami has a top 3 pick. Those are the types of bargaining chips you need to get Watson.

Trevor Lawrence is basically untradable because his theoretical value is high because of the way QB rookie contracts are drawn up. So in a way he might actually be the most valuable player because of potential and nothing else. But trading anyone I've just mentioned is basically GM suicide.

All 3 of those QB's have better offensive talent.....you put Watson on those teams and his numbers would be even better than they were in Houston.

Can you blame Watson? They're pretty messed up right now.

If he does demand out, the Texans can at least get a huge haul

Yeah, I get why people think that QBs should not get to weigh in on GMs, but given that they apparently told Watson that he would have a voice, going and hiring someone without letting him weigh in is a dumb move.

On Watson as a QB, as someone who lives in Houston and sees all the games, he is a damn good, franchise caliber QB. He's 25 years old. Teams would be tripping over each other to trade for him if he was on the market.

Why release Watt when they could trade him?
A trade would be ideal for the Texans and give them the best cap relief but I'm just not sure any other team gives up picks and takes on the final year of his contract. It seems unlikely given his age and injuries. Especially contenders with limited cap space. The Texans are in bad cap shape so there will be a fire sale for the new GM.I'm just spitballing though. This seems to be what the rumors are in the tidbits I've heard.

He's only 31, hardly ancient.

With the way he's played and all the injuries, I just think that 31 is more like mid 30's. You never know though. He could find the Adrian Peterson/ Frank Gore fountain of youth formula.

Your Hawks make a lotta sense for Watt, and a type of move they have been known for

I don’t think Houston has a # 1 until 2030

On Watt, he is an old 31 in football years, due to his injury issues. He might be a good pickup for a contending team but not at his current cap number.
