He signed the second biggest contract ever by a QB AFTER Houston made those stupid trades. He has no leverage here.

He had no leverage before.
NFL players rarely do. That is why he wasn’t wrong to extend.
The question is what is in the best interest of the team.
Man Deshaun Watson is playing a risky game asking to be traded if he thinks being in Houston will make him unhappy imagine being told you are being traded to the Jets which is a possible scenario. Realistically teams with the cap space to take on his massive contract that needs a QB and would be probably willing to give up multiple first round picks would be the Jets, Colts, NE and Washington. The Texans wont trade him to a division rival so you can just scratch the colts off. I am sure he would love to go to NE and Washington looked pretty good this season all things considered and if Washington is in the talks I wouldn't count out Dallas to some how some way to do something crazy to prevent Watson from going Washington.
Depending on who they hire as the new coach and GM maybe a good move getting traded to the Jets. The only issue is the team having 0 weapons on offense to help Deshaun with.Honestly, it really can’t get a lot worse than Houston.
They have dealt away so much draft capital over the last 2 years and got little back for it. A team like the Jets would be a lateral move.
Why release Watt when they could trade him?I'm not sure they will try to trade Watt. From what I've been reading and seeing, they will cut him with a fairly small cap hit and let him test the waters. I do agree that Houston needs a lot of help and needs to recover from all the damage caused by O'Brien. The more draft picks they can get, the better. They are in full rebuild mode.
17.5 million reasons no one wants him when just wait till releasedWhy release Watt when they could trade him?
He can still play....I think a team would trade for him.17.5 million reasons no one wants him when just wait till released

Denzel Mims could be a weapon with some semi competent coaching. And Crowder is a solid slot WR.
But yeah, they suck.
The upside though is that because their pick this year is so high, they wouldn’t have to add as much as other teams so they might still be able to assemble other pieces.
Should the Jags be offering the #1 pick plus more for Watson?
Really? No. I think there’s a very good chance Lawrence is better than Watson. Wouldn’t be surprised if a few QBs in this draft turn out better
He can still play but is the juice worth the squeeze. One thing I have always said about JJ Watt in his prime is that even with all his sacks the Texans defense as a unit was never good. So trading for him giving up draft picks, then taking on a 17.5 million in cap, played all 16 games and got only 5 sacks doesn't seem like the most logical move. I would wait out his contract before making a move on him.He can still play....I think a team would trade for him.
