NEW YORK (7/1)-- New York Mets captain David Wright might be cleared to start doing some baseball activity next week as he works back from a narrowing of the spinal cavity in his lower back, which resulted in a nerve being irritated.
The New York Post reported there is a "strong possibility" Wright will be cleared to resume running and fielding grounders next week.
A source told ESPN.com that Wright is "picking up his activity," and the running and fielding is a "possibility" next week.
Wright has not appeared in the majors since April 14.
Wright would still have a long path back to the majors because he has been inactive from baseball activity for so long. He continues to rehab in Los Angeles, where the Mets will be this weekend.
