TRAINER'S ROOM....

RHP Noah Syndergaard (right hamstring) threw a bullpen on Saturday and said he "felt great." He is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list on Wednesday ... INF Jed Lowrie (left knee and hamstring) is doing some baseball activities, but it's unclear when he'll be ready for rehab games. "It sounds like they're treating the left leg from the hip all the way down to the knee," Callaway said. "It's improving. We just don't have a timeline."

Next...

Mets ace Jacob deGrom (4-6, 3.26 ERA) faces Cubs lefty Cole Hamels (6-2, 2.85) in the finale of the four-game series on Sunday. After taking a two-hitter into the ninth against the Braves on Tuesday, deGrom looks for back-to-back wins. Hamels allowed one run in seven innings for a no-decision Tuesday against the White Sox.

Let's get the series W today with the Ace on the mound.

The Lowrie news is disappointing. Hopefully we can keep treading water until his return. Would love another bat to come alive (Cano I'm looking in your direction).

Nido went yard leading off in the 5th, Lagares doubled and Jake helped his own cause with an rbi single to give the Mets a 3-1 lead..but he also allowed a 2 out rbi single in the bottom half.

3-2 Mets heading to the 6th.

deGrom is trying to nibble at the zone too much...and not getting the calls.
He just needs to continue going after them and change speeds more often.
Keep being the aggressor.

He's at 98 pitches thru 6.

Mets lead 3-2 heading to the 7th.

Cubs grab the lead 5-3 (3 run HR) in the 8th on an 0-2 pitch to Baez off Lugo right after the mound visit.
Ughhh.

Gsellman takes over with 1 out.

Oh well...splitting the 4 game series at Wrigley isn't the worst thing.

But Geeez....the margin for error for this team just isn't big enough for them to simply skate by.

Cano is a damn waste.
He has like 1 good day at the plate per week..if that.
McNeil should've started this game..or at least PH for Cano in the 9th.

Final:
Cubs 5 - Mets 3

Onto to Philly.

Sheeesh.

Into the record books, and climbing....

Pete Alonso's 27th HR, a solo shot to center came on an 0-2 pitch from Cole Hamels in the fourth inning on Sunday. The 24-year-old had also homered on Saturday to set a new mark for NL rookies before the All-Star break.

Alonso connected in his just his 77th game while Strawberry hit 26 in 133 games in 1983. The Mets' record for homers in a season is 41, shared by Carlos Beltran and Todd Hundley.

"Congrats to Pete for breaking my record which has stood for a long time," Strawberry said in a statement. "What he's done in a short period of time is most impressive. No goal seems out of reach."

Alonso is nearing Mark McGwire's major league record for homers by a rookie before the All-Star break, 33 set in 1987...and he is now only one home run shy of McGwire's all-time record for the most home runs by a rookie before July 1st (28 also in '87).
