No thanks. Statistically, Financially and from a Talent perspective, losing Williams for Amendola would be foolish. Williams >> Amendola.

Well, that depends on how much money Amendola's gonna make. I wouldn't give up much for him.

Very True - I think he [Amendola] made around $2m last year whereas Williams, still on his rookie contract made less than a mil and as a 6th rounder probably will be much cheaper than Amendola in '13.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Amendola, I just think pound for pound; dollar for dollar I would rather just go with Kyle and spend the money elsewhere.

Does anybody else have interest in Glen Dorsey? I absolutely loved him coming out of college, but maybe we can find a better use for him? I think he's a more natural fit as a DT in a 4-3, but i would love to give him a chance to at least compete for some playing time.

Not really.

Speaking of Dorsey, he's a good example for the dimwits who call the NFL combine useless every year (like Freddie Coleman at ESPN). Dorsey had a lackluster combine.

That could be a welcome addition if we cut whitner and negotiate Goldson down to the 7m per mark? From what I remember, cutting Whitner would give us 3 mil in space? So you take his 3 mil in space, with the additional 3 mil in unforseen cap relief and we could get Goldson at the 7m mark without too much collateral damage. Also, I would love to see him move to the SS position.

NFL, NFLPA release franchise tag numbers - NFL.com

This probably deserves its own thread...

You know, with 6.9 mil as the franchise tag for Goldson I'm really surprised the 49ers are not considering that... it seems reasonable unless they are anticipating a holdout that lasts into the season.

Also, with 10.5 mil for WRs I think that eliminates most of the teams from using that on the available WRs since losing the guys likely wouldn't cripple their offenses.

It would be higher because we already franchise tagged him. 2nd time bumps him up to $7.5M.

Oh right, forgot about that 2nd year rule. Just seems like a shame to get nothing back for losing the guy... well hopefully his contract and productivity get the 49ers lots of points in the compensatory pick selection process of 2014.

So right now Byrd and Michael Johnson are getting tagged with Flacco, Clady, Melton and Bowe expected to be tagged as well. Wallace, Goldson, Bushrod, Loadholdt, Avril, and William Moore aren't expected to be tagged. Those guys still have time to agree to a new deal before FA starts though.

According to Profootballtalk.com, the "scuttlebutt in league circles" is that Greg Jennings is looking for as much as $12 million per year in free agency.
That's down from Jennings' previously rumored desire for an annual $14 million, but still way above the $7-$9 million an AFC executive estimated he'll get to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. If Jennings is truly intent on breaking the $10 million barrier, he could spend a lot of time on the open market. League sources tell CBS it's "highly unlikely" the Packers franchise tag Jennings.

I wonder why NE isn't pursuing...

Just saw that Darius Butler is a FA this year. How I kept missing him before somehow is beyond me. I'd have a serious rooting interest in seeing him as a 49er next year too if Sean Smith can't/won't/doesn't happen.
