I keep forgetting about Chris Canty. Add his name to that list as well.
Okay, I think we all need to take a deep breathe and prepare for some serious damage being done by the 49ers in this draft!
The Baalke/Harbaugh combo should be able to extract some serious value out of a tricky draft. This is a great draft to have flexibility to pick up redshirts, and the strengths of this draft are lining up nicely with our needs. And thanks to KC
Can you imagine how much depth & more we will have if we "hit" this draft??? I just echoed the sentiments of 31 GM's.
Nothing but Net Trent - Nothing but Net!
My concern is essentially "wasting" the picks. We didn't have nearly as many picks last year, I think we have more depth this year than last as well. With the lack of impact we got from our rookies last year, I'd like to move around and get to a position where we can get guys that will contribute at a high level early in their careers.

There is a draft strategy known as 'something like' a flood strategy which calls for flooding certain positions with picks, good picks of course, but the idea is that you try to obtain quality from picking quantity.
I think Belichick may have used it a couple times. With that approach it will seem as if we are wasting picks but it is just a strategy and with 12-14 picks it's possible we may see something like that.
Ideally I would like to pick a little more strategically and conservatively this year and push some picks to '14. I see this draft as more depth than pro-bowl. Of course, a lot hinges on what we do with our FA's.
No matter what, it will be interesting to see how Baalke spends his riches.
A contract for a new player won't take away from re-signing someone else down the road. Justin Smith and Rogers have big cap eaters that go away soon. Now if you are talking 16 per for Revis that is a different story.
A league source tells the Baltimore Sun that the Ravens have interest in free agent DL Ricky Jean-Francois.
The Ravens have publicly stated their desire to upgrade at defensive tackle, where they appear to have given up on Terrence Cody. The run-stuffing Jean-Francois would be a nice fit, but he's also been linked to the Packers, Eagles and others. The cap-strapped Ravens are unlikely to be the highest bidder.

Offseason plans: Gary Horton and Field Yates recently took an in-depth look at the 49ers' offseason Insider. They list defensive line, linebacker depth, receiver/tight end, quarterback, safety and kicker as the top needs, in that order. They point to Richard Seymour as a veteran the team should consider adding this offseason. "Seymour presents a strong option in free agency on a short-term, moderate-value contract," they write. I could see Seymour helping in Seattle as well.
I'd be very surprised if we ended up drafting more than 7 or 8 guys this year after everything is said and done. We'll have three comp picks that we can't trade. I figure one or two additional depth players we'll want to draft. But the remainder will be specifically targeted impact players in the first three rounds.
Last year it appeared Trent had a specific G that he wanted with the third round pick. He got cute and tried to move back a few slots to get an extra pick. He lost the guy so he traded out to eventually pick up a future 3rd rounder for this year. If we don't get a lot of value, this will be done again to avoid wasting picks. And I'd also be very surprised if we don't trade at least a pick or two for a player prior to the draft.
