He is a clubhouse presence and a ++ defensive OF. But his bat is just + and very streaky, and he is going into his age 34 season.

I would not be against tendering him. But I see the argument for nontendering him and trying to sign him back anyway. There is no way he should accept an under-arb offer from the Giants though. He might as well become a FA and get himself market value, wherever that may be.
He's slightly above average pretty much every year. 114 OPS+ for his career. Ups and downs throughout the season but always ends up above average. Plus defender in RF, slightly overmatched in CF. He's an asset to any org and 2-2.5 WAR annually. That's the description of a $15M player.

I don’t care about the money. But the FO does care. Therefore, if we are going to attempt to understand/predict what Posey et al will do, we have to factor in the $$.

The org as essentially already announced they are going into rebuild mode, so players like Adames, Snelk, Soto,
Alonso, Fried, Barnes, etc are not likely avail to us. But if they want to try to keep fans coming to the park, they will need to have some players fans want to see. Yaz MIGHT qualify for that.
Categorically not true. Getting below the penalty line makes sense. There is no indication they are "rebuilding"

His OPS+ is actually quite solid for a 3rd OF with Gold Glove level defense, you are undervaluing his bat. 2.1 WAR last year in only 438 ABs. Mistake to not pay him $10 mil IMO.

Unless they have someone on tap that's demonstrably better than Yaz, it'd be stupid to let him walk

No love at all for Fitzgerald in the ROY voting this year. Oh well, I hope that he comes back in 2025 and surprises both the voters and the Giants' brass with another solid year.

Brisbees conclusion today on trading LWJ:

Another team would have to convince the Giants, in other words. The package of prospects would have to be too tempting. We’re not in PTBNL land here; Wade still has value to his current team, and they would need to see an offer they couldn’t refuse. Which isn’t something that another team is likely to offer, even if they were awful at first base last year, like the Astros and Yankees.

The smart money is on Wade staying put, and that’s not a bad thing. He doesn’t chase, and he hits the ball hard when he does swing. That seems like a player who is the least of the Giants’ many worries.

Right now, the Giants are set to have 6 players hit free agency at the end of the 2025 season (unless some miracle happens and the Giants exercise the 2026 option on Tom Murphy's contract). Of those 6 players, 3 of them (Taylor Rogers, Wade, Yastrzemski) have trade rumors swirling around them. It is possible that 2 others (Flores, Murphy) may not make it past spring training. Unless the Giants sign some guys on 1 year deals this offseason, it is possible that the only player to hit free agency as a Giant by the end of 2025 is Tyler Rogers.

From Pavlovic

SAN FRANCISCO -- The first deadline of the Giants offseason proved to be a good one for the Carsons of the world.

The Giants added right-handers Carson Seymour and Carson Ragsdale to their 40-man roster Tuesday, protecting both from next month's Rule 5 Draft. To clear a 40-man spot, San Francisco designated right-hander Kai-Wei Teng for assignment.

Seymour and Ragsdale both are starters who were in Triple-A last year and that profile often is popular during the Rule 5 Draft. They now are in a position to debut at the big league level next season; all three pitchers the Giants added last November -- Teng, Erik Miller and Trevor McDonald -- made their debuts in 2024.

Seymour was a non-roster invitee this spring along with another Carson (Whisenhunt) and then made 28 starts for Triple-A Sacramento. He had a 4.82 ERA overall but was at 3.92 in home games, which the Giants treat with extra weight given that much of the PCL resembles Coors Field.

Seymour, who finished the 2024 season as the Giants' No. 23-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, struck out 132 batters in 134 1/3 innings and has averaged 9.6 strikeouts per nine overall in the minors. A sixth-round draft pick by the New York Mets in 2021, he was acquired in the 2022 deadline deal that sent Darin Ruf to the Mets and brought J.D. Davis and three young pitchers to the Giants.

Ragsdale was also acquired in a trade, coming over from the Philadelphia Phillies in 2021 in exchange for reliever Sam Coonrod. A fourth-round draft pick a year earlier, Ragsdale, who stands 6-foot-8, has a 4.07 ERA in the minors with 12.3 strikeouts per nine. He split last season between Double-A and Triple-A, posting a 4.18 ERA and striking out 147 batters in 120 2/3 innings.

A year ago at this time, Teng was the one hoping to break through. The righty was acquired in the Sam Dyson trade in 2019 and the Giants felt they got a steal, but he struggled in four MLB appearances last season and fell behind others in Triple-A.

I’m really starting to think Yaz won’t be a Giant come Friday. I think it is a mistake to jettison him but expect it to happen.

Is Friday some deadline? I’m thinking they are planning on signing an outfielder and feel they won’t need Yaz.
