He's slightly above average pretty much every year. 114 OPS+ for his career. Ups and downs throughout the season but always ends up above average. Plus defender in RF, slightly overmatched in CF. He's an asset to any org and 2-2.5 WAR annually. That's the description of a $15M player. He is a clubhouse presence and a ++ defensive OF. But his bat is just + and very streaky, and he is going into his age 34 season.
I would not be against tendering him. But I see the argument for nontendering him and trying to sign him back anyway. There is no way he should accept an under-arb offer from the Giants though. He might as well become a FA and get himself market value, wherever that may be.
Categorically not true. Getting below the penalty line makes sense. There is no indication they are "rebuilding"I don’t care about the money. But the FO does care. Therefore, if we are going to attempt to understand/predict what Posey et al will do, we have to factor in the $$.
The org as essentially already announced they are going into rebuild mode, so players like Adames, Snelk, Soto,
Alonso, Fried, Barnes, etc are not likely avail to us. But if they want to try to keep fans coming to the park, they will need to have some players fans want to see. Yaz MIGHT qualify for that.
Probably should be normalized in SO/Inning..... seems like these guys logged a lotDon't feel like making a new thread just for this, so I'll stick it here:
The Giants were tops in something in 2024.

His OPS+ is actually quite solid for a 3rd OF with Gold Glove level defense, you are undervaluing his bat. 2.1 WAR last year in only 438 ABs. Mistake to not pay him $10 mil IMO.He is a clubhouse presence and a ++ defensive OF. But his bat is just + and very streaky, and he is going into his age 34 season.

Unless they have someone on tap that's demonstrably better than Yaz, it'd be stupid to let him walkHis OPS+ is actually quite solid for a 3rd OF with Gold Glove level defense, you are undervaluing his bat. 2.1 WAR last year in only 438 ABs. Mistake to not pay him $10 mil IMO.

Yeah 10 mil is peanuts for that kind of playerUnless they have someone on tap that's demonstrably better than Yaz, it'd be stupid to let him walk
Is Friday some deadline? I’m thinking they are planning on signing an outfielder and feel they won’t need Yaz.I’m really starting to think Yaz won’t be a Giant come Friday. I think it is a mistake to jettison him but expect it to happen.
It is the contract tender deadline. Any player not locked into a multi year deal has to be either given a contract offer for 2025 by then or be allowed to sign with other teams. Is Friday some deadline? I’m thinking they are planning on signing an outfielder and feel they won’t need Yaz.
It feels like we are not getting anything done. Are we at least kicking the tires on possibilities?
