Another option .... .not very reasonable ... but possible ... they may be close to signing either Montgomery or (please no) Snell and since trading for Ray they may have felt they didn't no longer needed him ... and they deopped out
That is a possibility but I'd rather see Imanaga than Montgomery. And no Snell, please. He's got a high ceiling but also a low floor.

Pavlovic --

I've seen a lot of confusion about Giants/Imanaga...they were never a frontrunner here, people just went wild with rumors. They view him as more of a back-end starter and prefer other guys (they still plan to add to rotation)

For a back end start seems kinda spendy.

Hate to say this about a player, but here is to the Cubs being wrong on this one and not the Giants.

I’m curious about Davis, are the Giants really interested in keeping him or replacing him with Chapman? Either way I guess they will trade him if they sign (please don’t) Chapman.

I read a piece on the Marcus Stroman market and it mentioned the Giants as a likely suitor. In that article, the author suggests that if the Giants do not want to go over the first tier of the luxury tax threshold that they would likely only sign one pitcher from among Snell/Montgomery/Stroman or Chapman. That got me thinking, who would I rather see signed among this group? Right now, I'd probably go in order of Montgomery/Stroman/Snell/Chapman. I'd be okay being saddled with Snell's contract over Chapman's contract.

So does this mean Giants are going for Chapman?

all it means is JD is going to arbitration. He is still on the roster, and barring a trade, will be on the roster. The fact he didn’t agree to a 1-year deal to avoid arbitration does not change his status with the team in any way, shape or form.

Don't know if the Snell rumors were false or if the Yankees are trying to get both. Right now, it reduces the Giants to one of Montgomery (yes), Snell (no) and Chapman (please no!).

Stroman to Yankass 2/37

Snell rejects Yankass offer of 5/150...wants either 5/165 or 6/180

Looks like we should pivot to either Monty or Burnes
