Spanks placed Bader on Waivers. I think I may be more interested in him than Renfroe.
He's struggled with injuries and has hit poorly when healthy this year. Probably not worth the signing.

Other than the Angels, most teams have jettisoned players that have underperformed and/or dealt with significant injuries.

I don't remember a team ever doing this before.

Me neither. This is worse than the White Flag White Sox.
I wouldn't be surprised if this now becomes an annual tradition for teams who have not lived up to expectations (notice that it is mainly the Yankees, Mets and Angels doing this), especially ones who are just over certain payroll thresholds. I also wouldn't be surprised if this becomes an area of contention at the next CBA negotiations.

Looking closer those guys are indeed pretty meh. But so are the ones we got.
Haniger just got activated. Yaz should get activated in the next couple of days. Conforto may be back sooner than initially thought. Which one of these mediocre outfielders would you jettison and which mediocre outfielders would you want to replace them with?

Should be? Conforto can't be counted on. What's the downside?

Who gets jettisoned? Bryce Johnson is already off. They will need to make room for Brebbia sometime soon. There are not a lot of obvious candidates, unless you are ready to move on from Randy Rodriguez (probably the casualty for Brebbia) or Joey Bart.

I would like Renfroe or Giolito, obviously. Lopez might be able to offer some depth, but I don’t see that as a big upgrade. Grichuk does not interest me.
Renfroe seems to be another low 700s OPS guy who strikes out a lot.

We have those guys already.

Haven't read this at all. Have heard rumors he's done for the year.

I read on the Giants' page that he's taking light baseball activity and is set to start hitting off a tee today. I extrapolated from that information that he come back early.

Outside of Giolito there's pretty much nothing here.
I think Matt Moore has established himself as a pretty good reliever. And Giolito has not looked good since joining the Angels (and was spotty with the White Sox too). He's an innings eater at this point and those aren't prized by the Giants' FO (except for bulk innings guys and the Giants have a couple already).

Is it that they aren’t valued, or that we just don’t have any? If we want to be able to do ANYTHING, we need our bully to be as rested as possible. And getting a 4th SP is pretty much a requirement to that end.

Stripling, Manaea, Wood and Beck could all be used at starters (and innings eaters). I don't see how Giolito is really any better than Stripling or Wood this year. Have you looked at his numbers?

Hard to get too upset at a guy for not performing for the Angels. He had decent numbers for the Hose.

So you think he'd go back to that kind of pitcher with the Giants? Who would he bump from the current pitching staff? I would guess Beck would be sent down.

Beck and Walker are really the only real options. They COULD DFA Junis, and I would be AOK with that, but I doubt that would happen. If we could get Giolito, though, I don’t really care. Just make it work.

Outside of June, Giolito hasn't been that good. I'd pass.

Looks to me like the peripherals are ok, but the long ball has been a problem.

Command looks ok, WHIP is ok. It's the gopher balls.

WHIP Isn't that good, outside of April/March and June (maybe May). Look at his SO/W. He had two good months where it was in the high 4s to md 5s. The other 3 months were low to mid 2s. But yes, the gopher balls are not good. Stripling 2.0?
