I’m ok not signing Chapman and let Davis and the rookies handle the position. I think Davis is going to have a better offense year with a better manager. I think and hope Lee will be a good lead off hitter to help score runs. I believe overall we will be better at DH too with Pederson gone. Maybe sign a pitcher to fill a hole and let the rookies grow. That’s my take.

You can’t hit a grand slam with no one on base.

FZ is putting the Giants together similar to how WB put together the DC movies. They saw the Marvel was printing money, so they wanted to jump to the same spot in story development that Marvel was at. Marvel was 16 movies in and took the time to develop each character with their own solo movies before they put everyone together. DC jumped right in with Justice League.

The Giants want to START with the big FA superstar signing without having the farm system in place popping out useful players year after year. Without signing the mid-level guys to fill the holes the farm isn’t able to specifically fill. He is building in reverse. Not that this is really FZ’s fault. This comes from above him. But he was brought in because he mirrors that mindset.

Marvel/DC

Good analogy

BTW, I was a huge DC guy growing up. Green Lantern. Flash. Superman. Batman. Sgt. Rock.

I thought Marvel was second rate. When I was ten.

I’m ok with like a Montgomery and a Hoskins if they can trade an outfielder. I’d rather have Lamonte in the OF even tho he’s a decent 1B. If they are super expensive like Chapman and Snell then I’d agree with the above.

If we trade Yaz to Boston we will get whatever we want, well maybe.
Nevermind the fact that he has been rather adamant about not wanting to play for Boston. But if you ignore that little fact, yes. Trading him to Boston is a great idea. What could go wrong?

I understand him not wanting to play there. His last name would create unrealistic expectations. Mike is a decent big leaguer outfielder but he is nowhere close to the Hall of Fame level his grandfather was. He could make the All-Star game and still fall well short of expectations there.

I totally get his reasoning for not wanting to play in Boston (for the Sox).

I expect he could end his career there, though. He will have already established himself elsewhere (here) and just going there for a swan song.

Not to be outdone by the Dodgers signings of Ohtani and Yamamoto, the Giants today officially announced the signing of free agent catcher Tom Murphy.

Take that, doggie scum!

So I think it is pretty well established that the Giants AT BEST have a very outside shot at a WC slot this year. That means, we SHOULD essentially punt on this years FA class. At least any long term contracts on older players. That will only handcuff us for a few years down the road when we hope to be better positioned.

But I am AOK with signing anyone to 1, 2 or maybe 3 year deals. That likely rules out Snell, Montgomery and Belly. But who does that leave? Hoskins? Belt? Anderson? Imanaga (he will take a Snell-like deal, probably)?

I would be OK with Hoskins on a 3-year deal and Anderson on a prove-it deal (meaning we lose him either way after ‘24). After that, basically punt the season and try to buy prospects by picking up bad contracts.

Right now, I do not plan on ordering MLBtv this season. The Giants have given me no reason to shell out $30 a month for their garbage product with no apparent plan moving forward.

The long standing objective of the ownership group was development of the parking lot across McCovey Cove. Now that it's nearing phase 1 completion they may become aware that gate revenue has tanked and the Giants are way behind the 49ers and Warriors in local energy. Still ahead of the Sharks, Cal, and Stanford, but the gap is closing :)

Hopefully they'll commit to putting an interesting and, dare-i-say, competitive team on the field. They really need some players fans can invest energy in. Logan and Bailey are a start. Hopefully Jung Hoo Lee is another. Please no more churn

I don’t mind churn, as long as it is just the side dish. A main course of churn gives me indigestion.

We missed out on Ohtani. We missed out on Yamamoto. And both landed on the Dodgers. I know that we still need to play the 2024 season and could become a Wild Card contender. However, the remaining "big names" on the free agent market have some serious warts. This just seems like a good time to go all in on a rebuild. I know it won't happen. FZ will go full stupid and try to build a 2021 team again but I really think this is a great time to just reset. Don't trade for a shortstop. Don't sign a high priced starting pitcher. Don't trade for a starting pitcher. Play the youngsters, trade whatever vets you can at the deadline (unless something miraculous happens and we have the division lead or a really good chance at the division lead come July) and make something better for 2027.
You didn’t play out that scenario:

suffer horrible attendance except when doyen fans show up for SF/LA...lose money…lose a generation of fans maybe forever…turn over the whole FO…make sure NO FAs want to come here…

not gonna happen

That is pretty extreme. Giants' fans have shown that they come out when a winning team is built. Putting mediocre teams, like the last few seasons, hasn't helped attendance. Why continue to build mediocre teams? That lengthens out the time to an inevitable rebuild and still loses fans.

IMO fans will show up if the teams gives them hope and are interesting. We see that year after year when AAA players are inserted into the line up. They don't show up for re-treads and aging talent

Fans will root for Ty Blach. They won’t root for Alex Wood. But if either of those guys are FEATURED, the fans will be pissed.

Chapman, Bellinger or Snell

I’m bored and since nothing is happening with the Giants signing anyone at the moment, I have a question for my fellow Giant fans. Since we have been linked to Chapman, Bellinger and Snell, who do you think the Giants should or will sign of the three?

If they can trade or release some of the dead weight (I.e. - Conforto/Haniger), then I’d be happy with Montgomery, bellinger and Hoskins.

An OF defense of Bellinger, Yaz/Lamonte and Lee would be legit. If they can’t trade or get rid of one of our glut of useless OF’s then I’d be happy with just Montgomery and Hoskins.

I don’t want Chapman or Snell under any circumstance unless for some strange reason they’d take a short term, high dollar contract. I doubt either would as it wouldn’t make sense for them as this is probably their last big contract.
