Add Maybin to list of of NRIs.
The more mediocre veteran outfielders are signed to minor league deals, the more nervous I get about the outfield configuration. These guys bring nothing that would look better than what the Giants already have, except "veteran presence". Bochy must be salivating over these new guys.

I don't get the love for Cameron Maybin. I'm reading suggestions like "he could platoon with Steven Duggar" or "he could be a starting corner outfielder". Why? Last year, he slashed .249/.326/.346 (which is just barely below his career slash of .254/.322/.368). Against lefties, he hit .246/.329/.346 and against righties, he hit .252/.321/.326. He is going to be 32 years old at the start of the 2019 season and has 12 years of big league experience. There is no untapped potential here. He's not going to out produce the guys the Giants already had on the 40 man roster. This whole "proven big leaguer" thing is way overblown when the only thing proven is the guy cannot hit well.

According to a Google alert I just saw the Phillies are back in the lead to land Harper

I happen to believe they were always “in the lead”, but what is this alert based on?

Someone passed gas that kinda smelt like Harper in a Phillies Jersey?

We know that Bochy loves the vets!

Wouldn't Non-roster count as one word, or does the hyphen make it two words?

And I think we all know that if the FO/manager like what they see in him, despite how he does in spring training, he'll get the job. At least one of Gentry/Parra/Maybin will make this team and possibly two. Besides, my point had to do with writers trying to make a case for him to be a platoon with Duggar or an outright starter in the corners. It seems they are drinking the "veteran presence" cool-aid.

Options are a good thing. And I think that among the players in the fold, Dugger and Mac are the only “locks” for significant time. Ferguson and Maybin will be competing for the backup CF job and Shaw and Parra will be competing for the third starting OF job (Shaw for left, Parra for right).

Shouldn't "veteran presence" cool-aid be more like "veteran presence" whiskey? You know, because whiskey is aged?

Are we drinking the same type of kool-aid?
No. Cool-aid is the generic stuff. Its cheaper and can be bought at the pac n whatever down the street.

The kind I prefer is the "tend to root for the farm hands to the extreme" flavor. Its quite refreshing.

Giants signed Nick Vincent to a minor league deal. I have to think he's got a good shot to make the team, unless he looks absolutely awful in spring training games.

Kind of surprised on this signing, only because of his 80 game suspension last years for PEDs. I guess its been long enough (and enough new people in the org) that they are not steering clear of these guys any longer.
Either way, he seems like a long shot to make the team.

Since we are not doing anything this free agency I fully expect that Belt, Posey, and Bumgarner will be traded durning the season for prospects to teams in need.

I could see Bumgarner and Belt possibly being shipped off but not Posey. They need to keep the face of the franchise in SF.

I think FZ is doing things. Incremental improvement things. Not sexy, but smart.

We still have a shot at Harper, if we want to pay him.

We will not trade Posey. Belt wouldn't fetch much unless he has an All-Star season; even then his contract is tough to trade. Bum could be moved.

In any event, I think we need to trust that FZ knows what he's doing.

I think that he probably has a move up his sleeve, but he's waiting for Harper to officially sign with someone. Could be something involving Panik for an outfielder. They are certainly equipped to replace him with Hanson and Solarte. Could be a reliever.
